Remember that the popular stuff that gets raced, crashed, P plater destroyed and suddenly becomes rare because there is none left is a safe bet for future value. XA-XC falcons all got crashed and demo derbyed or rusted out. Now there's none left and they are worth heaps, in particular utes and coupes.

MX5 and WRX are common now but they will fall off the road and vanish, so they would be my guess.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. S13's/wrx's are like vaginas at the moment, but in 10 yrs time they will (like datsun 1600's) all be destroyed by drift (rally) drivers, rust and p platers. Captain p plate that could only afford an auto Q s13 will be looking for a sweet turbo one in 20yrs time to recapture his youth (after his kids move out).

Just had an epiphany - what about the 2L escorts? or anything Cosworth- were there any Aus delivered Cosworths?

nope AFAIK. We only got the RS2000 escort. Still a collectable already tho.

I reckon it's the "when I was a kid..." factor that determines the value of a car

Ask any car bloke - you cunts will be the same - why they like cars/a particular type of car and 90% of the time the answer will start with "when I was a kid..."

Blokes my age (mid 20s) who watched blue 555 WRXs sliding through forests (if it was Possum Bourne...RIP) or crashing (if it was Colin McRae...RIP) will pay a premium for good examples of road-going versions. Same can be said for Tommi Makininen-spec Lancer Evos.

Yeah because Escorts are already 30+ years old. Hey I reckon Jag E-types and Ferrari Dinos might be collectable too one day.

It's not really modern, but nice stock 240zs have been slowly going up in price havent they?

For those claiming that the Jap stuff won't be collectable some day need to have a broader view. Look at the earlier holdens... the next one was always the better one, yet some they all seem to be commanding in the teens and up towards 20k nowadays for good ones. Granted they are for different reasons, but just because a newer model was better doesn't mean it was more desireable...

Anything that will be competitive in classic racing.

Rich people pay heaps for BDA Escorts (vs a normal escort with a 2l engine) because they're homogolated and therefore competive in classic events.
