It says you can tow that, but its fucking slow doing it, and feels like its going to die trying.

Brakes will be fine assuming you are smart and have electric brakes on the trailer. Power wise will be OK as long as you don't expect to sit with the traffic going up long hills. Suspension will most likely be a case of replace the worn out parts, AU's are getting on in age and no doubt will have worn out bits that people haven't replaced ever.

        You could buy this.

Money saved would do a few upgrades as suggested.

The kit would reduce the problem, not eliminate it. Plus Commodore wagons seem to really notice the weight on the springs more then Falcons. Another advantage of the 'coon is if you need to upgrade the springs you can simply add add-a-leafs or the springs off the ute, I belive the BF3 HD suspension is 1tonne ute springs.
Plus Falcon wagons seem to go for next to nothing compared to Commodores. The only reason why I didn't buy one was I couldn't find one locally with power pedals for the wife.

Poly Air Bags in the rear of any commodore. Mine has towed thousands of K's and has had zero issues. The camber kits are shit because they are only eccentrics and move the toe as well as the camber. When I asked the expert behind the counter whether he set up the toe or the camber and ignored what was left because it was never going to be right in one of them, he had no answer and looked like he wanted to hide under the counter. Mine has never had camber issues after fitting the bags and fully loaded drops 20mm at the most. Leaf springs would definitley be better though I would reckon.

yeh as for the leafs they are better for towing however can be abit rough without a load,My SR wagon has "sports" suspension from factory and can be a pain in the arse literay on rough roads for a family. but it does handle well for a wagon with out a doubt.
As for braking Ive got heavy duty pads, replacing the front rotors with slotted jobs which made a considerable difference in our old AU ghia.
And performance whilst towing (car trailers) goes with out saying, unless your going for a v8 its not going to brake any speed records but my car tows escorts/skylines/commodores/jap utes no problems at all I use the lightest trailer i can hire which helps alot.

To me for the money its a no brainer!!!!

The BF/FG wagons are 190kw which for a family/tow car go very well,we have a SY territory which supprises me with its power occasionally.

that and if you go over any bridges or anything you can feel the trailer move the whole car around.

If it does that, you have the trailer loaded wrong.

i thought the weight was in the right spot in comparison to the draw bar and axles, and it was loaded slightly to the right which i thought was correct

perhaps it was the 2 tonne vehicle and massively overbuilt hire trailer.

So you had about 2.8 tonnes...

Car should be in the middle of the trailer (left to right) and whereever it needs to be front to back to get the best handling.

For mine this ends up being dead center on the trailer laterally and slightly forward of the axle to put a touch more load on the towball (due to the cressy having a fairly high arse end).

Falcon owns for towing due to suspension setup, 4lt inline torque being at the right spots and their avalibility.

As for 2300kg towing.. provided you have stabiliser bars fitted on the sides of the tow ball the control is fine and the car doesn't move around to much.
They are slow but I've still been able to get around the place and up some steep hills ok.

is it legal to tow more than the kerb weight of a falcon?

                              eg. it weights 1,750kg right

                              say 400kg for a trailer

that only leaves 1,350kg for a car?

i'm pretty sure Jim's VN race car would weigh more than this?

You can now as long as the car/trailer is properly equiped (trailer brakes etc)

too_much_boost's car is 1000 - 1050kg so should be fine anyway even with heavyarse hire trailer

Anthony - Like the others have said Falcon wagon is the go
