I wonder how much better off you'd be hitting a wodern pole? Do they usually snap? I guess the bigger diameter might also decress the stress vs. the small area of the side of a stobie? Probably no chance of them ever changing, given I doubt it's sudenly going to start raining in SA (unlike here, in Brissy, crazy!)..
Not much better, i've been passenger in a car that hit one of the bastards in sydney at 70km/h - it snapped in half, power lines buzzing on the ground behind us - fuck doing that again, very sore for many days after. :knock:

Stobie poles are ugly bastards though, we actually have a few wooden ones out in the countryish areas too though.

i grew up in central qld out near mine sites and shit. all the cunts in their landies and bullbars used to love just driving down the the road knocking over the reflector poles.

whoever had to fix them got the shits with it, and started filling random poles with concrete, was pretty funny seeing several landcruisers with dents in the left edge off their bull bars until they got the idea to knock it off

        lol thats tops.

I wonder if it was a front engined car if the results would have been better or worse?

Better: more stuff to stop the pole
Worse: engine gets driven into the driver/passengers face

        ??

Fuck you man, that was Adelaide's only Ferrari and now it's gone.

The stobie pole is a genius invention and is the natural enemy of the drunk and/or stupid driver. CXTDreamer is spot on with his Darwin reasoning.

Bet the kid get's of with no fine.

fucking little rich cunts. no respect !!

he'll get an over priced lawyer and claim that he sneezed and lost control. then he'll get off scott free. daddy might be pissed for a few weeks till he gets his new fezza but at least he'll still be able to drive the lambo to work till then.

You mean the P plate laws don't stop P platers from stealing high performance cars for a joyride? Who would of thought.

Looks like the passenger airbag broke a nose or something, fucking blood everywhere.

When was the last late model car that you saw part of the engine enter the cabin? Fifth Gear crashed a Renault 100kmh into a tree headon and there was no intrusions, and at that speed you'd be dead anyway from massive internal trauma.

Are Ferraris even crash tested? Theres no NCAP rating for them, and id hazard a guess they wouldnt be as good as the above mentioned Renault

Yeah that fezza has an engine in the front.... Notquite the same scenario
If the impact sped is over 70km/hr and the object being hit is relatively immovable / coming the other way at similar speed / momentum then you are pretty much dead no matter what car you are in(bar a Mac F1)
The engine having the most momentum behind it would continue driving the car forward so the chances of getting crushed would be higher- however good car design would fold the engine underneath the car while it is crumpling, which could make it safer than a front engined car - as the engine momentum and shell momentum could be seperated and I dare say the fezza shell is a heap lighter than most other cars.
