Actually the bailouts are pretty pinko :pOriginally posted by Dave View Postpinko much?
The capitalist solution would be to let them all go broke or dig themselves out of the shit.
The reasonable solution was to introduce regulation to prevent it happening in the future + let them go broke or dig themselves out of the shit.
The pinko solution is to bail the fuckers out.
The American people weren't in favour of any of the bailouts. It's a bloody cock up.Originally posted by EfiOz View PostBut they don't want to bail out a manufacturing sector that actually makes something more than paper money?!?
America had it's best solution to get rid of a bunch of private debt it had accumulated over the years but they fucked it up. Lets face it though it's not surprising the response has been fucked up with Bush in charge and I doubt Obama will be much better.Originally posted by Crash DummyI had reason to believe that the photo could have been of a very well done tranny. The problem Obama will have is no matter how good he is you cant unscramble the egg
On one of the US car forums its interesting the acceptance of the view that US cars overall have been shit and many have/would not buy American, theres not the kind of blind patriotism you'd expect.
Also some interesting articles showing that the UAW while not helping things, is not the reason for the carmakers problems

90+% of car buyers would never ever have even contemplated looking at a car forum...so its hardly a reflection on society as a whole. There are plenty of people in the states who will only buy american, a much bigger percentage of the population than those here who would only buy Australian.Originally posted by UZZ31 View PostThe problem Obama will have is no matter how good he is you cant unscramble the egg

i think americans are just as bad as australians in that respect
there's a large section of the community here and there who hates local cars
that's just the way it is
but i think like here too there's a gradual eroding of the traditional buyer base for locals cars (be that govt. or rental or whatever for a variety of reasons)
i do get the feeling that there's a LOT of americans who look at american cars as shit and it's not about patriotism... it's about the fact that the avg. american FWD shitbox makes a VE Commodore look like an F40...Originally posted by boxxx

I just don't like seeing the type of people who risk other people's money constantly getting away with their dodgy schemes. Like somebody else said, they should be made to eat their own shit and dig themselves out of the hole. Without mummy and daddy's help of course.
If they had the balls of true capitalists, guys who risk there own money and livelihoods, it wouldn't irk me so much.
The upside is at least there are some low km ferrari's going nice and cheap (and waterfront mansions in Vaucluse if you know where to look)

there is a alot of bullshit being peddled on this matter ,for example i was listening to the abc radio the other day and some woodduck basket weaver was explaining the problem that how the big 3 continued to make cars nobody wanted ,and then when the Prius arrived it rocked their world and they were left holding the can and how Toyota had the foresight ..W-T-F this fuckwit lives on planet uranus :knock: have a look at the sales charts cocksucker and see what americans want ,and when they have monies again what they will buy . ill say i beleive strongly despite the jap car fans /anti us brigades best finger crossing these companies will not fold . As our comrade ustasa has touched on the industries can provide more than motor cars for the US and if left to crumple who would pick up the bits - India, China and/or Russia , the US Govt will nationalize the car industry before that happens .

Then there's all the stories about the Congressional mail servers being swamped the week before the big vote by Joe Sixpack venting his spleen.
And the infamous second vote after the first vote was trampled into the ground.

What a crackwhore! Consumption isn't the problem. The UWA's extortionate employee entitlements is why they are sinking fast and no bailout is going to fix that.
Crash the lot and but it back at the fire sale, minus legacies. Only way to be sure.

The Prius aint rockin nothing at the moment, hybrid sales have been down about 50% month on month for the past 3 months since the national average gas price fell to $1.75/gal. What America should have done was enact a gas tax when they had the chance (like every other country) to recoup all this tax payer money they are about to spend. Bail out the big three with pump money from people who have gas guzzlers already. Nobody would have complained if gas only dropped a buck from $4 to $3. But now that it's so cheap, hybrids are sitting everywhere unsold, everybody's pissed at the government for pinching their pennies in one bulk sum, and nobody's mindset is changing at all about gas guzzling Tonka trucks when it only costs $25 to fill your tank.

hybrids - they make me LOL
what kinda faggot buys a prius - seriously
ok the electricity boards and those faggety utilities companies buy them to salve their conscience but they're the solution to a problem no one cares about
they are symptomatic of the industry as a whole
they had a tenuous sales position in the good times
now things turn sour no-one has the energy or money to be 'green'Originally posted by boxxx

General Motors sold 9.37 million vehicles worldwide in 2007 and lost $38.7 billion. Toyota sold 9.37 million vehicles in 2007 and made $17.1 billion.
Arguing that no one wants to buy yank cars is a crock of shit. The fact is that their costs of production are sky-high, and the UAW entitlements form a large part of those extra costs.
If it were up to me all unions would be immediately abolished, if you are a shit worker or have no skills then you should be paid fuck all for your labour. Its all about productivity. Contrary to socialist belief, productive workers are valued by companies and competition for labour will set appropriate wage levels without the inefficiencies introduced by unionism. UAW have bled GM dry for decades.

There is the crux of the problem - Unions pricing their members out of a job... Australia already cannot compete on a global scale in some areas thanks to this crap, and the US auto makers are showing just how bad it can get if we let it get out of hand.Originally posted by tandy assGot a 97 cielo for free (I think i got ripped off)
