That is kind of what i am after.

This is what i have now and it is full. I am after something the same height as the lower box but double the width. Would like a full length draw as well.

I have the 1st one here, cost $1000 because of a small dent and a couple of handles slightly bent, had it for over 3yrs and been good so far. My tool guy usually has the White sale catalogue and they're ~1200 or 1300 on special usually. Mine has a part of the back that's faded, although that's because it's right near a doorway and cops the sun all day, guy that works next to me has an older one without the ball bearing slides and it hasn't faded, although I don't think It's ever been cleaned..

On ratcheting spanners, I bought the blue point flex head reversible ones recently. I found when using other peoples blue point ones there would be lots of situations where you would back yourself into a corner which with a non-reversible spanner, you would be stuck and might have to cut the spanner off or something, important thing for me since I use them mainly in tight spaces. The flex head is a little bulky, but I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

the ratchet spanners I have are angled with a reverse switch.

                  seem nice enough so far.

is there a brand that makes very slim ratchet spanners? the regular snapon ones are unusably thick for 75% of my situations...

                    also, i'm seriously considering buying a facom JET.9XL trolley, 9 drawers (8 equipped. +-225 pieces),for about (2500 euro) 4400AUD

1-11 Make a wide 14 draw roller cab (1300mm wide) but you are looking at $1700 for the bottom, $900 for the top.

T&E have a roller 16 draws I think and 1.8m wide. Not 100% on price but
                      atleast $2k

I rate the 1-11 boxes, pretty solid.

                        [QUOTE=JamesB;840389319]Thread bump time.

I know that Stanley bought Sidchrome, but has anybody got any experience with Stanley socket sets and ratchets. I'm guessing that they probably come out of the same plant in China that currently manufactures Sidchrome stuff.
                        [QUOTE]

I bought my first socket set 14 off years ago as a Stanley. They where the "Made in England" ones and are bloody impressive.

I spoke to a mates Dad who owns a chain of tool stores. He also says that in his opinion Snap On are over priced.

I've used and been happy with Repco (except their torx sockets which keep failing apart), Eclipse, Blackhawk, Statlewillie and the top end KC stuff. I own all but the last two.

I love the Supercheap Gold stuff but thats because its never failed me.

For a Apprentice I agree the cheap stuff is junk, but you should look at the medium priced stuff THAT FEELS GOOD TO USE. KC, SP and Repco are all great and at the 20% off sales worth buying.

I won't use Kingcrome or Sidchrome due to high breakage rates under medium loads. Bluepoint is cheaply made IMHO.

regardless of whether true or not, every bloke that owns a store and doesn't (can't?) sell Snap On will tell you the stuff is overpriced.

Part of the money you pay with Snap On is for service though - the guys in those lovely white vans that will come visit you with new shit and take away any broken shit on the spot is probably where 10% of the price is.

just ordered a repco 'starter' kit: $500 gets me a black top roller cabinet, 1/2" 34 pc socket set, ring spanner set, allen keys, multigrip, adj. nut fucker, and a screw driver set plus a few other bits and pieces. apparently the box alone retails for $500.

I reckon its a good kit to buy then add the different tools i want as i go, hopefully minimising money wasted on tools i wont use.

if the cabinet has more than 3 drawers and ball bearing slides - then yeah, it's worth the $500 alone.
