And that has a bog stock motor. Once warmed over they are bloody responsive.Originally posted by evil_weevil View PostI had more fun in my mx5 at OP GP at its first track day, than my 254rwkw skyline!!The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

Drive a fd :pOriginally posted by Cal View Post
Fast & turbo doesn't equal fun. The lack of throttle response in a turbo kills half the enjoyment in my opinion. I've driven some pretty quick turbo race cars and if the same power was available atmo, I'd go that way every time.
I prefer turbo over n/a as I think it's a drag going 7k+ to get any power.

I reckon this could be a fun NA track hack for $10k*

*add Bilstein PSS9s, R-comps, gut the bitch to reduce all the weight and stick some good brakes on once your wallet has recovered from buying it.

Not true at all.Originally posted by hrd View PostNA is not a cheap way to do any sort of decent lap times. What are you going to get that's NA & very light that will even get a sniff of which way a basic 200rwkw S13 went?
My VN commodore track car had all my money spent on suspension, brakes and tyres and a second hand LSD. I stripped it out and put a cage and seat in it.
Engine was the stock 300,000k V6 and auto gearbox.
I could do the same (or better) lap times as V8 commodore versions that had similar money spent on the motor and not much else.
Heaps of power is fun, but fast for cheap needs to be in the suspension brakes and tyres. THEN you go for the fasts in the engine :D
The Fridge of Fury turbo crown had about 200kw available to it and best I managed at Eastern Creek was a 205 second lap. It'd pull about 220k's down the straight. The VN could only manage about 180k's tops and still did a 203.Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Nah they got spanked my MX5's at FOSC at Bathurst the other week.Originally posted by sejanus View PostDrive a fd :p

Doesn't have to be like that. I shift at 7200. My engine is built and tuned to produce good torque and power from 4000rpm.

I'd like to see yours if thats the case. I've just never driven a n/a car that compares with the turbo cars I've driven. They have all had good accelerator response but it's just you need to rev them long & hard to get them going and be aggressive with the gears constantly. not a bad car as such, just I prefer turbo.
i think i like turbo torque

My car, but it's still road registered and certainly not the fastest in class. We are governed by very strict modification rules too.
Eastern Creek 1.52.33
Wakefield Park 1.11.51
Oran Park GP 1.23.70
Bathurst 2.46.94
The turbos are a tad more impressive. They are allowed more mods + turbo:
Eastern Creek 1:44.37
Wakefield Park 1:05.25
Oran Park GP 1:17.76
Bathurst 2:34.39The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

No, it's just faster.Originally posted by sejanus View PostSo we are agreed, turbo is better? :D
1.05! farken
Rather rapid isn't it. I think he's done a 1.04 from what I've been told. Some of those times are David Raddatz and some are CT's. Not the quickest, just some random grabs from Natsoft.
Anyway we are a fair way off topic as none of those cars cost remotely close to $10K. Mine cost 3 times that and the turbos about twice that again. The most dangerous risk of all - the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. - Randy Komisar.

To keep it closer to topic cars like anthony's sub 10k S13 is mid 7's at wakefield basically on it's first trip and andrew had his NA sub 10k s13 down to 9 flat after lots of tweaking. With the sils the goal these days for a car which is track focussed (but still registered) would be in the ballpark of a 5 at wakefield with around 15k spent. The lots of money spent sils are aiming at closer to the 00 to 02 range for wakefield and comfortably into the 30's at the creek.
That would give some realistic broad targets to aim at. Basicaly mx5's are slow and expensive but have a racing class, sils are cheap and fast but don't really have a series they can run in so it's more supersprints, hillclimbs etc
