easily one of the most awkward looking cars of recent times... even taking into account the Koreans

See I would argue these are the only really good looking car Subaru has made, that could genuinely sell on its looks alone...the exception to the rule.

I think 'every' other model in the Subaru range has sold purely on the coat tails of a Novel feature or from the reputation from other Subarus in that particular model range.

        For example:

1976 Subaru....Pig snout ugly as sin...had it not had the revelutionary 4WD feature and sold as 2WD only would it have been a flop.....Yes
1980 Subaru Leone.....again ungainly akward styling...crap dynamics...had the 4WD wagon now with Dual range 4WD not been made would it have sold.....NO
1986 Subaru Leone....new square Body style...still a crap design...even a small person still sits behind the B pillar when driving...without the 4WD wagons now legendary status...Flop.
1990 Liberty....imagine the RS version had not been made....would the car have sold on its looks and Dynamics alone....Hell No
1994 Subaru Imprezza....take the WRX out of the equation....fucking ugly boring as bat shit cars.
1997 Subaru Forrester....seriously now....take a look at them they are Nerd styling fucking central...No Turbo 4WD no one would care
        2008 Subaru Imprezza....pure early 2000's Korean styling....but it still sells...why?

I think this WRX looks fine. The SVX is ok too.

            +1 nerd styling, love it.

When the headlights look bigger than the wheels (as in that red car shot above), something's gone badly wrong...

FWIW, I agree about the styling of the outgoing Liberty (at least before they added lots of fake vents etc at the mid-life facelift) and the second-gen was a good looker too for a middle of the road family car. Other than that, Subaru styling has never really had the runs on the board.

Riiiiight... if it had a 1.6L 75Kw engine under the bonnet it would still look fine?

All visual aspects aside, the option of the 3.6L 6cyl boxer from the Tribeca could prove to be an interesting powerup. Not sure on the weight of it tho if someone was going to throw it into a WRX shell.

                          Or a sick bag.

People will still buy them though. Liberty wagons and Forrestors seem to be the tool of choice for 30 something parents.

I actually thought for a few minutes that these new Liberty's were a sick April fools joke - or at worst a model designed specifically for the seppos, and that we would get a Japanese designed model that looked completely different (i.e. not vomit inducing)....
