Noting that the above are still speculation - I reckon diesel option is what they'll also mention

they are hopeless, RB30 is spot on. A small low blow turbo is where its at.

Look at what VW are doing with engines half the size.

          1.4 TSI - 125 kilowatts (170 PS; 168 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm; 240 newton metres (177 ft·lbf) (MEP 21.7 bar) @ 1,750-4,500 rpm (200 newton metres (148 ft·lbf) @ 1,250-6,000 rpm), 7,000 rpm rev-limit — Golf Mk5 GT

          2.0 TFSI
          From
          125 kilowatts (170 PS; 168 bhp) @ 4,300 rpm; 280 newton metres (207 ft·lbf) @ 1,800-4,200 rpm: 2005 Audi A6, VW Tiguan

          To
          200 kilowatts (272 PS; 268 bhp) @ 6,000 rpm; 350 newton metres (258 ft·lbf) @ 2,500-5,000 rpm: Audi TTS

This is not a friggen race car, its a family taxi, you need low down torque. Either get that from having a long stroke motor like the falcon 6, or a fast spooling turbo or supercharger. A reduction in capacity is just stupid.

            New article here:

            http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...ID=64731&vf=12

In short, there's a 190kW, 9.3l/100km 3.0 for the Omega and Berlina, and a 210kW 3.6 for Calais and SV6 (no fuel economy figures reported). 6 speed auto for both. Other than that, not many changes - some new badges, low rolling resistance (low grip?) tyres, some new colours.

Restyle to come in about a year's time.

                Not real flash IMO

Here are some specs with the torque figures

                Omega / Berlina
                3.0L SIDI V6 (LF1)
                190 @ 6700
                290 @ 2900
                91 RON
                6L50E 6sp Auto
                9.3L/100

                SV6/Calais/Statesmen/Caprice
                3.6L SIDI V6 (LLT)
                VE, WM MY10
                210 @ 6400
                350 @ 2900
                91 RON
                6L50E 6sp Auto
                10.1 - 10.3L/100

The I4T Falcon will have the sameish power but more torque than the 3.0l V6

To me, 210kW for a direct injection 3.6 is fairly low? Surely there's a good 20-30kW to extract out of that.

It's within 10kw of the "tuned" 3.6L Passat r36 and 20kw more than the more pedestrian tune found in the Skoda Superb. So it seems right on the money.

The 3L output is similar to that extracted by BMW from their NA 3L I6.

And these outputs are on normal 91RON cats piss.

those figures are for 91RON, most quoted figures use higher octane don't they. I know some of the Euros use 98RON

                      edit: beaten

Well then, I hope the rumors of DI and alloy block for the Ford I6 are true then.

And why not? 2L + some boost = power of a NA3L and the torque of a 3.5L in the midrange, often as not.

Same as always, they have to leave an upgrade path for the next few years.

Anyway, it is a good engine change for the Commodore though...

Funny how everyone bags out the more powerful I4T Falcon and not this though...
