Interesting, I know stuff all about rotors, if the compression is down does that mean a rebuild? Common issue?

I said to him I think the bumpers might all be like that but he believes it may have taken a hit. I am not so sure.

it depends how low the compression is. Rebuilds are generally fairly cheap, they often end up costing a bit as people get enthusiastic and do more than just a straight rebuild.

Difference in colour of metal panels? Or plastic bumpers? Seem to be a lot of jap cars out there with slightly different looking plastic bumpers, just don't get the plastic primer quite right.

most of the cost would be labour to get the stupid thing out and back into the 3rd gen engine bay i would reckon. The maze of hoses is something to behold

afaik (and I have zero mech experience) the series 8's are better in this regard.

But that was 10 odd years ago. There is more traffic now and much more global warmings, so your rx-7 would overheat doing that now days.

Ok thanks guys, i am unsure if he really believes there is something wrong with it or he is just used to the power but I will mention it to him anyway. Might be worth a compression test.

I think he was just humbled by my mates Porsche and my mighty Monaro when we went cruising :rotflol:

With the panels it is just the front and rear bumpers, the rest of the paint looks fine to me. Not always noticeable but it really bothers him.

Sounds like plastic primer, typical on a lot of cars, but really stands out with metallics.

they aren't that special in a straightline unless you mod them. Even then the twins will only take you so far.

It still feels like a quick car, its low weight helps on the street I think. We couldn't find proper performance figures for them anywhere but he says that it runs around 5.3 0-100 and 14.1 1/4 mile. Is that right?

He wants to mod but no further than exhaust and tune. he says the intake on a S8 is good enough to be left alone. Although I know he is unsure who to get it tuned by.

What sort of time do you think it could run under ideal conditions with exhaust and tune? Mid to lo 12s maybe?

                        Sorry for the thread Hijack!

i think mine would be a mid 12 if it got off the line ok. send him to dale, he did my tune and it works well.

mine is still decently quick in a straight line, I've got no plans for power upgrades - but it's just nowhere near cars with big single turbos thats all i meant. it kills my commodore in a straight line and it has the usual bolt ons as well.

Good offer, cheers. I have told him to join this forum a few times, maybe that will get him on here.
