Those are supposed to be a but on the thirsty side, which kinda defeats the purpose of an economy falcon, and they already have a turbo six for the fast ones.

Its ok if they call it a Budgie instead of a Falcon...or maybe a Swallow...which you'd have to to buy one.

Its a performance motor, will result in the same comparison that people are making re thirsty small capacity high po motors.

If you use a motor which was designed from the ground up to be turbocharged and economic - there isn't any reason why it wouldn't work out (VW motors being an example).

This 4cyl Falcon doesn't sound like it'd be any worse, in principle, than the 150Nm@15600rpm 3L direct-injected V6 that Holden are planning on using.

It'll be interesting which one wins the marketing battle though; "it's 4cyl not 6cyl" ... "but it's turbo and turbo is always thirsty" ...

Yeah 4cylinder turbos can be economical.. (yes that's the AVerage Consumption readout for the MPS6, 999.9L/100km)

                Will definitely be exempt.

Amongst others they're allowed to drive the lo-po turbo/blown petrol cars eg. some VWs, 200Kompressors, Saabs, Volvos etc. Kicker is each P plate driver must apply for an exemption for the vehicle they wish to drive. The legislation must have been thoroughly reviewed for effective operation prior to implementation.

The definition of "effective operation", in these cases, is "did it allow the employment of a bunch of useless public-servants with nothing to do".
It did, therefore it was effective.

it would be cool if it went into a light weight rwd platform maybe the ford equivilant to the pontiac solstice, but i dont see much of a market for a big turbs 4 banger

Really? VW passat is largish... and it comes with a 2L turbo. The Skoda Superb is near Falcon sized and is pushed around by a 1.8L turbo.

My VW Passat being an earlier model is a 1.8 litre turbo pushing along a medium size sedan. It can be a zippy car with the manual and is usually pretty good on fuel but boy can you notice when you get 4 adults in the car and try to drive off boost :oh: Also under certain conditions it uses more fuel then my modded Monaro...

Surely the diesel donk mentioned for the Territory will slot straight into the Falcon & make infinite more sense than a 2.0T petrol?!

S'pose we shall see what these ecoboost units perform like in real world situations in Eu/US before they arrive here - with the torque figure coming in as low as that article mentioned no doubt the performance should be adequate to move the barge, the question will be what the economy hit is.

Don't forget that you have to spool the turbo up to get the down-low torque; about the only time you can ever achieve the lowest-rpm torque-figures turbo car manufacturers claim is on highways going up long hills in high-gear. Lag always stops you from getting boost that low in the rev-range 'round town.

So it might be capable of going OK, but I suspect it's just ab out has to feel a bit doggy.
