I reckon you're on the money. But hey, i could take 5 years to build my next car and still be on the track before him at the rate Edo is going... :D

I don't think so. If your happy being slower then a stock evo why bother modifying you car to go faster.

A non setup rwd car will be much more difficult to drive then one you throw cash at to make just as fast as a evo. So why not just start with a evo.

If it is for the challenge and the reward why enhance you car to handle better, why not just become a better driver.

If you want to be a better driver, just by a go-kart. Don't bother with a car.

I could buy a car that would whip the pants off Cal's MX5, but what's the fucking point? It proves I can write a big cheque, that's about it.

Modding a car to handle better raises the limits of the car, which means you re-learn how to drive it, and how to reach those upper limits. A stock car will only go so fast no matter who drives it. The tyres, the brakes, the suspension will all be a glass ceiling through which no one will break through until some mods are done.

If everyone just went and bought the fastest cars around, then you would have on make classes in every category.... group Nc, Nb, IPRA etc. Thank fuck we don't.

here's one reason: my Sil80 owes me $11,174 as it currently is and runs 59s at Lakeside so far. Plenty still to come from it yet too.

So your Sil80 is not setup and is road registered to be driven to and from the track?

Maybe the OP doesn't want to look like a dick with an S13/80/driftocat.

                    definitely not setup properly yet.
its not registered only because it was brought in for race only use. Its totally indicitive of mildly modified S13s. plenty of far more modified cars running at Lakeside with road rego.
but with the left over money from not buying an Evo I can afford a seperate road car.

if you really want an un-setup (whatever you define that as) rwd registered car for your comparison there's my Supra... All I did to that was a wheel alignment and KU36 tyres.

So I just drove an Evo X and an STI basically back to back.

I'm disappointed in myself to say I think I liked the STI more. Better grip, less body roll, feels like a race car for the street and still practical being hatch. Am I gay or does anyone else feel the same? I really expected to like the Evo more.

have you seen the MOTOR mag with the MRT tuned version of both? Would give an indication of what mild upgrades can do to both cars. Let's face it, how long is it going to stay stock?

Why do they replace the brakes on both of those models? Is there something wrong with them for track use or just making them better?
