Anyone heard of people having troubles with Sti pistons? If you read the MRT stuff, they say they have issues.

Can you afford to crash either of these cars on the track and walkaway?

If not I would be starting with a older VI or earlier STI

Modding a car to handle better raises the limits of the car, which means you re-learn how to drive it, and how to reach those upper limits. A stock car will only go so fast no matter who drives it. The tyres, the brakes, the suspension will all be a glass ceiling through which no one will break through until some mods are done.

If everyone just went and bought the fastest cars around, then you would have on make classes in every category.... group Nc, Nb, IPRA etc. Thank fuck we don't.
Agree, half the interest for me is in the R&D. Anyone can open a cheque book, it proves nothing.

You could get the exhaust from Craig at Carlineline Gladesville. He builds them for MRT.

Seriously just stop reading anything "MRT".

Yes the pistons in the 2.5 STI jobbies aren't real good for sustained... can't find the word.

Are you seriously considering a new EVO or STI as a track hack tho? I would be looking at an earlier model - a dual purpose car has never worked for me in the past.

Daily driver and maybe one track day every month or so. Race cars are too hard and don't get used enough to justify the costs associated.
I wouldn't be hammering it so hard that I'd risk putting it into a wall but I would like the engine to stay together for 5 laps at a time.

ahuh ok... So you want a liveable daily that is a crossover track car? Either will suit the job, go with whatever you like the best to be honest. I would stick as close as possible to keeping the modifications strictly to handling and cooling and that's about it... as soon as you start opening things up and bolting on your go-fasts you open up pandoras box of whoop arse - when a daily / track hack are combined. But I am sure you already knew this...

NFI... decent set of pads and fluid and there is nothing wrong with them.

Evos seem to need disc and pad upgrades when tracked regularly.

All cars (apart from exotics) need better than factory pads. As for disc upgrades, if anyone needs bigger brakes than the factory Evo Brembos, then they must have Schumacher-esque levels of skill. They won't be the things holding the car back.
