and why hasn't Cal complimented this thing's lap times? Its actually fast. He must save his praise for slow euro-trash race cars for sale in his own city for some reason???

As mentioned earlier in the thread for FWD
The 90s Daihatsu Charade won the aussie rallye championship 3 times versus 2ltr subies and much more sophisticated machinery. MRT I think raced them. Both the 1.3 (HC) and 1.6 (HD) sohc cammed 16v all alloy engines where taken to 9000rpm all day with little work. Finish and Norwegians are turboing stock engines for up to 250hp atw and the 1.3 forged crank can be destroked using 37-38mm BE custom rods.

For RWD - 74-85 Alfa gtv with 1179 twin cam turbo could be a beast if you can find one without rust! the electricals / interior issues wont be for race setups. The 1300 twin cam will take a fiat crank (71.4mm stroke) with crankpins -2.4mm down to 69mm using custom rods. Alfa head is a hemi 2v magic.

The above engines and cars are proven and so are the engines with boost
both engines above will hold 250hp atw reliably and cheap at wreckers
I believe also low capacity with boost is the best in bang for bucks.

A Civic from WA fitted with an Unopend K20 raced in SA for the first time last weekend and set a new Under 2ltr lap racord, Im sure ther can be no better option than a reasonable budget Civic.
The Charade GTTI that runs in WA has many issues but Im sure in the right Hands could be sorted but at higher cost and still wont have that Honda Chassis.

As much as I love Alfas, the 2valve head sucks. At best it's acceptable in twin spark 75/155/164 form. The wet liner block is problematic with reasonable boost levels. If you wanted to put a decent 16valver in it, a lampredi 16valver with 155GTA valve covers is a far better bet. The Alfetta chassis I pretty heavy too - a 105 series chassis is probably a better bet just for its weight advantage.

"The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Minimum weight is still only 1045kgs is it not? Thats what Bob Jowetts Civic is said to be.
I lack the open mind to believe in a lot of pretend concepts...like magic, or aliens, or reliable rotaries...also unicorns don't exist. Either you can accept those as scientific facts, or one of these Christmas's, you are in for a rude awakening when you discover Santa Clause isn't real

I assume a civic would be well under 1000kg (for a porker) more like 900kg i would have thought
