Thinking of building an IPRA mini and punt it around my local hill climb. Looking at the regs, it states you have to use a production block - so, in my case I'd use a 1275 A-Series. Doesn't mention anything about the cylinder head. Anyone know if this is free to change to something else? Have my eyes on a BMW bike head conversion.

have seen crossflow heads on them, arden 8 port/pearce 7 port/GR crossflow etc at hillclimb, but not sure about the twin cam conversions though. i would imagine you'd be good to go?

Yeah, heads are free. There is one in SA which is/was running a bike head.

On that topic is there much about the BMW bike head conversion for minis out there?

Cool. Thanks takai. Full steam ahead then.

These guys are the gurus for BMW heads on A series blocks:

                http://www.twinkam.co.uk/shop/catego...aram=cid%3D%26

I've got a K1200RS head lined up which has hotter cams than the run-of-the mill K-series Beemer. Just waned to know if it would be legal under IP regs.

I've also managed to find a short stroke crank for my 1275 which, with my .020 over pistons gives 1115cc and should rev pretty hard. Multiply by 1.7 for a turbo gives 1895cc. Dunno how competitive it will be but should make about 200hp and weigh 550kg.

That should be sufficient to torque steer it into a tree!

FWIW this is the reg you wanted:
4.1 General: Subject to the limitations contained in 4.2 and 4.3(iii) below, the engine and components directly associated with its function are free. The crankshaft centreline as viewed from above must be parallel to that of the original engine.
                      4.2 Block:
                      (i) The block must have the same number of cylinders/rotors and the same configuration as was standard or available as a manufacturers option for that particular model (eg, in line, horizontally opposed).
(ii) The block must be from the same manufacturer (eg, Ford, GMH, Nissan) as the original car.
(iii) The cylinder block must either be:
(iv) (a) derived from an eligible car as detailed in Regulation 1.1 OR
                      (b) derived from the same family of engines as an eligible car using identical internal dimensions (with differences only in transmission mounting pattern, minor external casting differences etc). The block type must be clearly identifiable, ie, Nissan SR20DE, SR20DET, Holden Family II, Toyota 4AG series etc. The derived block must be identifiable as being from a mass produced vehicle, not exclusively developed for sporting evolution models produced for homologation purposes in small numbers for competition use only. CAMS will be the final arbiter in determining the eligibility of a block.
                      (v) CAMS reserves the right to add any engine block at its discretion. Engine blocks included in this definition are: Nissan FJ20.
THanks for the links too, always wanted to look into the twincam 1275s after having a Supercharged 1275 in the UK.

in that case, you could still use a PT cruiser engine, or go some sort of wacky peugeot motor
