Here is mine i built a number of years ago, from an old cabinet from work, 16 or 18mm MDF with plastic on top, stolen 20mm steel tube frame, the legs pull off for transport and the bar at the bottom splays them out to make it a bit more stable, for what is its not too bad.

will build a decent one when i own a house.

It is actually a lot easier then you think. That was my first time welding with a mig and the welds are terrible on a lot of the places (but strong enough since I just kept redoing them until I got a decent weld). I did this in two days and it is 600 x 600 x can't remember the height.

Actually you are a builder? Build me a toilet for the shed and I will build you a bench.

I can build you one but it may not be what you expect.

Dave, give me a bit and I will knock the frame up for you, I'll bring all the gear that you need to do it. From there painting and finishing shouldn't be too hard yourself. A bench that big would be easier to build on site, unless you want to get a tow truck to move it.

Gives me more time on the mig, and being a bench its pretty easy to make my shitty welds look good.

Heres roughly what it would cost:

RHS 40x40 - around $200, get them to cut it to length
                        Bench top, $150
                        Paint $50
Consumables, gas, wire, flapper discs etc $100

A frame like the one you pictured will be a piece of piss, you just need to wait a bit till I get some shit out of the way on the VK.

I built my 6m one at father in laws workshop, chucked it on the top of his ute ladder racks and drove it 20 minutes to my place. Easy enough for two people to lift (as long as it is a short distance).

Thanks man appreciate it. Got a mate coming over to have look. He does welding and shit so hopefully will be able to do it. He suggested using 25 x 25 though. It wont be used for any heavy work.

                                no worries.

25x25 is pretty light, you'd be surprised how much stronger 35x35 would feel. 50x50 would definitely be overkill.
