Exactly but Toyota have been doing it for ages, and people are willing to pay Toyota tax on any of the 4wd/Hilux range. I'm not certain people will be willing to pay VW tax on a Hilux competitor when they can just buy the Toyota version.

Toyota have been doing Hiluxs for a million years. They are a known quantity. They are perceived to be good, tough, reliable.

VW make hatchbacks. What do they know about utes and why would a tradie go and buy one over a Hilux/Navara/etc? Are they gonna get 20years out of it?

(I'm sure they're a quality item, I just don't expect to see many getting roughed up on a building site. I do expect to see a million of them towing jetskis very soon though)

VW have been making commercials for a very long time and have established a pretty damn good reputation

Crafter and Transporter have already established themselves well against Hiace, why not against Hilux?

I predict it will do very well here......not a No.1 sales position success like a Toyota, but a success all the same, as is the Golf a success even though it does not outsell Corolla.

VW are pretty well killing the small van market these days. I see no reason why this couldn't be as successful.

As someone in the market for a 4x4 ute next year, I like the look of that alot! BUT it only comes in diesel, and I don't know what the back seat leg room is like, as at the moment the only 4x4 ute on the market with full back seats is the Hilux.
