Yeah, like that...there just arent any you can buy here...I mean even at $75k or so it would be a good thing for loads of people who now buy landcruisers, or even some who buy MLs, Toe rags, & X5s.
Needs to be a good grunty TD donk with a 6 spd auto. Fucking most of the jap utes still have 4 spd autos FFS.

I keep looking at dual cab utes because they make a lot of sense for me. I dont really drive around town & Im used to the landcruiser anyway so the size doesnt bother me. I want to carry stuff that is often dirty (mtbs, dog etc) but be fucked if I want a low rent cabin, with shitfull plastic, a crap stereo, shit cloth seats and all the fucking noise you get in a hilux/navara/triton.

If they do a leather lined luxo version with all the bells & whistles for $60k ish then I'll be wanting one. If not I guess I'll be going with another wagon.
its like your reading my mind edo...

give me a Dual-cab 4x4 with a decent interior and I'd seriously consider one...

i can now see why people go to the effort of convertion their 80/100/200 series wagon's into utes..

Yep its fucked...Im thinking of getting a new cruiser to replace the old one...& then getting one of those big bucket type liners for the back...but sometimes I'll need to fold the seats down to get a filthy bike in there & I dont want mud on my leather fuck it. Plus I can still smell larrys farts if he is in the cruiser...

Ive even thought of buying a hilux/navara & pulling the interior out, sending the seats out to get retrimmed in cow, sending the dash & door panels out to get that soft stuff on them, adding some wood or brushed alloy bits, putting in a decent stereo & laying that dynamat shit all over the floors & inside the doors...but thats $15k or so on top of a new car, plus its a horrendous amount of rooting around.

That is my next truck right there! The Jap trucks are OK, but the diesel tech is old skool and the VW drivetrains are unreal. Just drive a Toureg V6 diesel and compare how they drive compared to the Navara and the Hiluz - absolutely no comparison. Diesel is the only way to go too - I am totally converted for towing - I get 10.8l/100 in the navara and 14/100 towing the race car. The interior comfort in the VW will be awesome too - my navara is already falling apart at 53000klms and 14mths of age.

Plenty of people buying Navaras etc as cheap family wagons. Add the VW badge so the Mrs can brag to her friends at child care and you should get plenty of sales.

Mitsubishi had the top of the line Triton GLS with leather and all the fruit for a couple of years, dropped with the facelift because they sold literally a handful over a couple of years.

I think you will find that most dual cabs are used as work vehicles. Flashy trim, soft touch materials and leather wont last a week with how most are treated.

I work with most brands of the dual cabs and they all get pretty knocked around after about 50k. And are downright stuffed approaching 100k.

Hate to see how something built for your feminine side would last with a bunch of real men at it.

VW would sell arseloads of these at around $50k simple as that. plenty of Navara Tritons and Hilux dual cabs being bought as rec vehicles , infact most of them in the so called higher spec are.

the japs will be forced to lift their game

and maybe others may come into this market

My boss bought a new Isuzu D-max earlier this year. Same as the new colorado but built by Isuzu and with the 3L turbo diesel. Has plenty of grunt (towed the car+trailer to wakefield without flinching) and gets 9.8L/100km around town.

The interior isn't too bad (they missed climate control and buttons on the steering wheel for stereo etc) but no leather and still lots of plastic. The back seat can be a bit uncomfortable after a while too.

It was <$50k too for the top spec: duel cab, 4x4 (electronic switchable) and body coloured bumpers.

The VW thing looks pretty good, should compete with the Hilux easy.

Only thing it could use would be double wishbone front.

Whats wrong with leaf suspension for the rear? It's a ute after all...

Nope, 'cause apparently it's the same as every other dual cab ute on the market. And leaf springs are 1800's technology, but they work, especially with heavy loads.
