a $20k triton is white 2wd single cab on steels with a vinyl interior and alloy tray
it's not a family ute
a proper dual cab triton is closer to $35Originally posted by boxxx

The point i was trying to make is that the interior architecture and dashboard plastics are the same for the 20K triton ute as the 35K twin cab version. So there is the reason it doesn't feel as luxurious (or has the inbuilt quality) of a Prado that starts at 50K+.Originally posted by T0nyGTSt View Posta $20k triton is white 2wd single cab on steels with a vinyl interior and alloy tray

errm... the sorta quasi $40k family leisure etc. Tritons are pretty decent... not super luxury but sorta like the quality of a 2002 MagnaOriginally posted by boxxx

No, the 3.8 V6 'is' a good and popular upgrade in older underpowered Hiluxs, Jackaroos and the like, compact, cheap, plentifull, lots of low down torque etc.Originally posted by MR 1JZ View Postyeah the suspension is actually good...im new to 4WD's having just bought one a couple months ago and it seems that these bogans swear by the 3.8 way too much
You just would'nt put it in any vehicle newer than 1990 or so

I'd buy one. Perfect for having a bit of comfort and still able to shove a tonne of shit in the back without damaging the interior (as many have already stated).
If you wanted something different, you wouldn't be looking at this then, would you? Every other vehicle niche seems to be pretty well filled within this country.

Nah, I dont mind the look of them actually...but as has been pointed out you get a $20k ute interior with leather seats for your $55k ute...not the interior of a $55k wagon. This is where I have a problem, the old cart spring drum brake rear end is cheaper to make than the IRS or coil disc setup in a wagon...and a steel tray is cheaper than a trimmed, glazed & lit cargo part of a wagon yet you get rooted over with trim quality & features...so the utes are woeful value for money in comparison. Fucking cunts. Inevitably the wagon gets better engines & transmissions too.Originally posted by Paydirt View PostThey recently had Navaras up here with leather standard. Was a 'Titanium' model with the fruit. Although I don't think it had climate.
Have you thought about a Triton GLS? They have full leather, although Jap plasticy leather. They also have climate as well as a lot of other stuff. The new model has the longer tray and the better 2.5ltr motor. Not a bad bit of kit although I'd only assume you'd think they're fucking ugly.

i know about five people who work in offices and drive dualcab 4wd jap utes.. they are not using them for 'work'.
one of them bought a near-new one that was pretty similar to what you'd considered doing edo - full leather retrim, doors full of dynamat, decent stereo. picked it up with under 5kkm on the clock for about 5k less than the price of a new one, but he's still not entirely happy with it because the dash and plastics look like shit and it is rather uncomfortable on long drives.
if the vw thing had the decent interior and had comfort levels more like a car than a truck then it'd probably find a good market.
but in my opinion people who buy 4wd utes for play also want to buy into the image of it being a tough 'work' ute - and if the vw thing ends up being perceived as a bit soft then it'll miss the mark.EMS Cold Start - starts third time, every time.

This is what I meant for someone like you, you don't really care if it can carry a full ton and a full sized pallet in the rear. so something like a toerag or cruiser with the rear converted to a ute rear end would suit. IRS for better ride, and a more comfy interior.Originally posted by edo View PostYour words are a revelation... retard.
I was not suggesting that all twin cab utes be trimmed in leather & nice things, I wasnt even suggesting that most of them should be...just that there is a market that is plenty big enough to justify one or 2 of them.
You would not work with it, in fact hardly anyone would use them for work. Mostly I suspect they would get used by families who might not want bikes/surfboards/dogs/wet stuff in the back of their leather lined wagons.
30 years ago many other retards said that nobody would buy luxo 4wd wagons because they wouldnt stand up to 'real' work. Well guess what, they still dont, but they sell lots more luxo ones than they do ones for 'real' work.
Much like people will buy SUV instead of real 4wds because they have all the extra space and features with better ride and comfort.

this is true
many many people won't ever put more than 150kg in the back... the shopping, some suitcases, a fridge...Originally posted by boxxx
