Pro Boost Turbos - Yay or Nay?

Does anyone have any experience with Pro Boost turbos? Is there much difference between this and shelling out another $400 for the genuine thing?

Thinking this GT35 Style Plain bearing.

Grant Dixon who owns Pro-Boost is a top bloke. I have personally had a good look at the Proboost 35R's and can honestly say that the finish and quality of them is quite high.. I'm considering one of his 42R's for my Bluebird once it reaches that point.

Grant also sticks by his products and doesnt stuff people around. He has been doing the chinese stuff for quite some time and knows what to buy and where to buy it from..(also what to not buy).. he gets all his stuff made to his specifications, and has really high quality-control to make sure it's not junk..

FWIW - china T04E/B turbos that give chinese-turbos a bad name cost between $70-$80 USD... grant's stuff is in a league of its own.

I have heard they are OK. That GT35 style turbo seems like it could be a winner. I would like to see it tested. It is certainly something I would consider buying if I was in the market for a turbo.

A fair few of the guys on AR use his turbo's and from all accounts are generally a good value piece of gear.

Although the average IQ of most members on AR is in the negative, so take with a grain of salt

Quality might be ok, wonder what type of response and driveability they give though

Rotor boys wouldnt care, they would be a baby for a decent rotor setup which could mask those issues.

That size turbo will be fine on a 2JZ in plain bearing.

The turbo looks the same as a turbotechnics thing that I fixed the oil drain setup on. It was on a soarer 1JZ and made 382hp atw at 23psi with 2JZ injectors. It was as responsive as any other turbo of that size.

I don't think the roller bearing turbo is very good value at $1k though. roller vs plain bearing makes little difference with that size turbo on a 3.0l.

I think proboost does turbo/manifold/gate packages for 2JZ's too.

I can vouch for Grant personally, I first met him about 10 years ago. Have been in a couple of his cars and actually driven a car with one of those 42Rs on it.

Finish is generally very good quality & Grant sticks by his shit. He has spent a lot of money on quality control & also on getting samples & stuff before he settled on good suppliers & manufacturers of parts, hence his products shouldn't be compared with your average "china" turbo.

I can only assume that if you are looking at 35Rs for a 2JZ you are planning on running at least two of them. Go bigger, you big girl
