The other pics show it bra less. As in most cases, it's a better look. Maybe less stanced as fuck with useable wheel travel, good powers , half cage, race seats. What's not to like. But the I like widebodied/over fendered just about anything.

This. I thought it was a pretty good starting point if you could pick it up for less than 8K.

Rather than start another "which-car-V11,001,342 x 10^5" thread i figure i may as well ask here. I have a feeling i know what the answer will be but....just how bad of an idea is a Discovery 1? In the market for a cheap 4x4 that can be put on club reg and used for family day trips in the bush and occasionally towing the Gemini. It wont be something thats daily driven, more a two or three times a month kind of deal. How bad is bad?

Did search PF and got the usual results like "its fucking shit you will die" followed by "omg its slow". Kind of makes you wonder how shit it is if people think slow is a problem [its a 4wd its not meant to be fast!]. I realize a GQ or 60/80 Series landcruiser is a much safer bet but i dont think one will fit my meagre budget.

I had a Disco II but same same.
Even though it was slow and came home on a tow truck twice (the last time terminally) I'd still buy another if I was in the market for a 4wd tow car. My spine would not survive another leaf sprung Landcruiser.
Lots of minis & mokes including a G13b powered Sports Sedan, a couple of Swift Gtis, a Goggomobil, Porsche 928S, Polo Gti, BMW 540i, a WRX and a few others.

GQ. TB42 petrol EFI is cheap as chips, and benefit is when money comes you throw an Ls/Barra/TD in.
Parts are beer money, engine and box is beer money (and near indestructible), and you’ll never ever get a speeding fine.

Except money will never come because you'll be broke from feeding the TB42.

Which is good, because you'll need every cent to fuel it.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

My patrol box blew when towing an empty trailer and apparently it's a known fault? Manual tb42 car though

Diesel or petty and what went wrong? My searches have brought up jack shit - its either people complaining they are shit without saying what is exactly wrong with them or which engine, or the typically British rose tinted view that because we built it its the greatest. Cant work out why the hate for the Disco too when its the same as the Range Rover underneath and people love those?

GQ is on my shortlist but like i said earlier, for the budget I dont like my chances of finding one that isnt fucked with rust or fucked ten ways from sunday by the Flatbrim 4WD Owners Club. I just want a nice, clean stocker. I have no intention of doing any mods or rock hopping, i just want something I can take my daughter, the mrs and doggo fishing with and occasionally tow the Gemini places. Thats it.

Dont want to spend my whole budget buying the worst of Model A because everyone says they are the best, when Model B would be just as suitable and the left over budget can be invested in maintenance which every make model and type of 4wd at this age will need.
