Right now I have not got the time or the inclination to fuck around with that kind of shit so I'm going to pass on it. It also had some kind of weird bearing sound coming from the back of the motor he couldn't put a finger one. Said it sounded like a worn out spigot bush but as it's an auto it made no sense.

My budget is mid 30's right now but I'm not in a rush to buy anything to be honest.

i'm in the same boat. looked at 5 E36 M3's and 1 E46 and about given up on the idea for now, going to save my money. most of the cunts are delusional i.e. agree on price if the car is as presented, ppi shows up flaws and isn't as presented, seller wants to stick to previous price despite new flaws. rinse/repeat

itsnota: they're all fucked? Of the 200 odd 996s that came to Aus (Mk1 and Mk2) i'm sure there are some good ones out there. Definitely my next car if I can find a good one.

As far as I can tell there are two types.

1) the obsessive, Porsche club, anorak type who think their car is worth squillions
2) fucked ones that have 50,000kms, but most are round Wakefield/EC.

Therefore its hard to find well priced, decent examples.

I'd have a S1 GT3 no problems at all but as you say not at 90K. Give it a while and they will climb back up in value.

Re GT3, depends what you want to do with it. They are a pretty crappy road car and a 996 Cup car can be had for mid $60's.

Apprently that one is a turbo RS replica built with genuine RS parts - some shop in Melb built four of them back in the day.

True, there is a cup FS currently with a fresh engine and gearbag for $65K or so. Would the upkeep be a lot more $$$ for a cup compared to the road car?
