I reckon R129 SL500 and SL600's are a future classic that are very much undervalued at the moment. I've been looking into them, but know that I wouldn't own one (why didn't these things come in a fixed coupe!!!)

There was a mint two tone white/grey one for sale not long ago which was mint, and I think was for 35k. This one is an early model, but the colour combo is on point!

Apparently the N55 engine has less issues than N54. HPFP failures were a big deal back in the day, but chances are that all the defective ones would be weeded out by now.

N54 is good for more power, just need to make sure some components are reasonably fresh and up to scratch (injectors, coils, fuel pumps).
I saw the same car and wheels started turning in the head, contacted a guy in Queensland who does single turbo conversions.

single turbo setup
intercooler
charge pipe setup
intake manifold
fuel lines
injectors
stage 3 fuel pumps
jb4 and pi controller
exhaust system
screamer pipe
all lines, fittings etc
tuning

literally drive in, drive out. 607hp with more left in it

Cost was reasonable for what you get.
Only potential issue is gearbox longevity.

Same guy put a glide in one and ran 10.1.
