OK, but no-one else was talking about that. Edo specifically mentioned my Century which is a current generation V12.Originally posted by Marv View PostI meant the older ones, like that purple "VIP" convertible on here.
I'm not sure how this turned into a pissing contest about which cars are more "interesting" than other cars, but my central point was that a stock 190E isn't rare or unusual enough to be unique and doesn't have enough speed/acceleration/handling to be interesting. I don't think many people would consider this a controversial view, certainly not Clayto who is apparently perfectly content pulling his 190E to bits and discarding large chunks of it.Originally posted by Marv View PostAnd if those are the criteria for desirable cars, I guess we better start saving blah blah blah obscure cars I don't likeNorbie!

What are the other costs of the conversion above the $9k listed before? Engine mounts? Customised sump? Engineering? Exhaust? Front-mount? Fuel pump/system?
Sure, the Juanjay will be cheaper per kW, but I think just buying the half-cut and calling it a day is a bit optimistic...?
So would you put a supercharged 454 Chev (or something large, heavy and powerful) in your Supra? To me, it is a similar argument.Originally posted by Norbie View PostI'm not sure how this turned into a pissing contest about which cars are more "interesting" than other cars, but my central point was that a stock 190E isn't rare or unusual enough to be unique and doesn't have enough speed/acceleration/handling to be interesting. I'm not arguing that a 190E deserves to be put in a museum (not even an Evo1/2 Cossie), though. I am saying that a worked Merc 6 would have some appeal to the people who like weird shit (like me).

If this was the only cost-effective way to get the power/fasts I wanted, then hell yes I would. And because the Supra is "just" a Supra (ie there were millions made just like it so who gives a shit what you do with it) I'd have no qualms about shoving a non-Toyota engine in it.Originally posted by Marv View PostSo would you put a supercharged 454 Chev (or something large, heavy and powerful) in your Supra? No, it appeals to brand purists. There's all kinds of "weird shit" you can do which offers better performance for less money. Hence this thread.Originally posted by Marv View PostI'm not arguing that a 190E deserves to be put in a museum (not even an Evo1/2 Cossie), though. Sorry Capt sandy vag, but you were making a point and it was wrong. I don't even know if the Japs have made another road going V12 or not.Originally posted by Norbie View PostHaha, I was waiting for it. Thankyou, Captain Pedant.

A 1j manual cut at most should be 5k - it will custom engine mounts which is something Clayton should be able to manage, a tailshaft (mine cost me 300 bucks back in 2006 and I doubt they have gone up in price majorly) a fuel pump. an exhaust, and a cooler and some piping though he might luck out and be able to use 90% of the factory cooler piping.Originally posted by Marv View PostWhat are the other costs of the conversion above the $9k listed before? He should be able to get away with the conversion for around 6-7k imho.Originally posted by brasherTJ is 99% African American.

1/2J are pretty easy to wire up calOriginally posted by Cal View PostI know very little about autoelectrics, but isn't this area going to be a head fuck on something like this?
2 looms plug into the ECU - complete engine loom (one single loom, no other shit) & body loom
couple of wires off the body loom into existing merc electrics then engine earth/s, positive to battery, alternator charge, starter solenoid and you are away.
It really is that simple (for a manual g/b engine)
tacho/speedo will require a bit more reasearch (Merc Vs Toyota).

Nah, neither car is italian, or a kit car.Originally posted by Cal View PostI know very little about autoelectrics, but isn't this area going to be a head fuck on something like this?"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."
