You're dreaming if you think fitting an LSx to a foreign car, other than a bogan mobile, is going to be cheap. Custom extractors are not $250 on ebay. Steering conversions, starter relocations, cast alloy sump mods etc.

But aren't you making custom arms and what-not? Wouldn't this let you fix the oddball steering/handling that edo's been banging on about once and for all?Originally posted by bahaimus View PostV8 conversion of pretty much any sort would also necessitate a streeing rack conversion. Bit more fucking around than I care for.
Sure, it's more work and expense, but if you add 6-12months to the project timeline and fix the fuggin' thing once and for all isn't that worth it?

Rack and pinion conversion is a headfuck. I did this to put the 1UZ in the Crown. I ended up palming that off to someone.
Must admit, I'm a bit surprised the 190E has a steering box.Proudly presenting the new foot long chocolate Subway.

Only you & very few others think that a V12 Century is actually interesting, 99% of car people would regard it as some weird oddball jap thing & thats it. Thats fine, youre the only one who has to think its special.Originally posted by Norbie View PostNope, a V12 Century is unique and interesting, in large part because of the Jap V12 under the bonnet. No matter how much you like Mercs you can't say the same about a 190E or its powerplant.
A 6cyl 190E is more interesting than a 4cyl, but its ok, you dont have to like it. I still think bunging a bigger than intended with more valves etc merc donk in makes for something pretty cool, something that bunging a jap engine in doesnt.
It seems though that Clayton wants fast & more power over something cool...which begs the question why he started with this & not say an Aristo or Supra or something more normal.

Nice theory, but in practice I get hassled for information about this car almost every time I take it out of the garage, and people are staring at the thing constantly. I'm not trying to say it's the most awesomest car in the world, but I find it hard to imagine a stock 190E would generate that much interest or attention, even among Merc fans.Originally posted by edo View PostOnly you & very few others think that a V12 Century is actually interesting, 99% of car people would regard it as some weird oddball jap thing & thats it. Precisely. A 1JZ/2JZ offers great bang for your buck, there's a huge amount of JZ-specific knowledge out there, massive aftermarket support, and above all it fits without major surgery. I have nothing against an LS1 conversion in principle but if getting it in will be a headfuck why even consider it? Apart from the fact some guy on the internet doesn't "rate" the alternative.Originally posted by Bill Surewood View PostI'd be curious to hear why & what changed your mind... personal experience?
Seems to tick all the boxes other than not being a Merc engine & slightly heavier due to turbo setup.
