This is getting frustrating.
Fuel pressure is still dropping, even after the pump has been back to ozrace.
Got lucky tho, owner called it quits as soon as the donk started to ping, #7 plug still has it's electrode & motor seems ok.
Qualified on the front row for the final & had the fastest lap of the meet by a fair margin, but had to pull out.
It would seem the motor is making more midrange than the ozrace pump can keep up with - being a mech pump it pumps less at lower rpm, which is where it's dropping pressure. He comes out the turn, gets on it & the fuel pressure dips, at the end of the straight it's fine. To my thinking we've got the motor working so damn well off the turns the BSFC is higher than the pump can supply when it's only turning over at 4000rpm.
It's getting ditched for an electric pump, not worth the risk to the motor to try to troubleshoot it further, it's been hurt once & has blown 2 ACL race head gaskets - that's enough.
Car is also having probs with the power steer, it's had the pump rebuilt, 2 differnt steering boxes, all new lines etc & it still goes hard in the turns.
Process of elimination comes down to the 2:1 quicksteer box possibly being the culprit.
Getting real frustrating, the car has a LOT of speed, it'll be hard to catch once it's sorted, but sorting it is a headfuck.
