You can dodgey cats, hell you can even get your car to pass the emmisions standards WITHOUT cats legally, but you can't dodgey safety.

Airbags are a big reason for the seemingly unnecessary writeoffs that are common these days. Seen plenty of late model subarus with a dint in the rear door and a curtain bag gone off that are writeoffs. Place I used to work for buys them for very little and sits on them till another comes in with airbag in tact, replaces it and sells it for 11ty billion % profit.
The ecu and all sensors and belts need replacing if they are deployed, this comes in the kit if selling secondhand.
You can get Forester airbags from them so probs. Sunspares, (07) 54 727 222.
Cardiff automotive in Newy will also have them. Or Brooky parts plus.
It's interesting to see when the bags do or don't deploy in certain types of crashes. Direct front bingles at anything over 30 odd km/hr will certainly set them off but I've seen plenty of Foresters that have been through 60 odd km/hr rollovers that don't deploy at all. This is usually how a forester gets written off, understeer into a corner, front left into a gutter/ditch, on it's roof.David Fraser - Automotive Historian!

Thanks everyone.
JK25: I'll give those guys a call. Might have to talk to you about turbo+ported wastegate upgrades as well.
Damage is to the front bar, lights are all intact and the car is most definitely repairable from my un-expert eye.
Next step anyone know a good place for 05 GT/XT front panels and/or halfcuts?Originally posted by Walt KowalskiQ is just a LARP dangerous conspiracy theory for extreme right wing racist, bigoted, uneducated, moronic rednecks who believe bat shit crazy stuff about satanic demonic one world elites who have been working for centuries to enslave mankind.

they have the safing sensor in them.
far to risky to re-use it after it's been triggered even if you could.
they usually hard set a fault code and can not be re-set.
you will need the module, clockspring, airbags, inspect wiring for any damage, sensors on vehicle that deployed the system, both front from the sounds of things.
not sure about the current sensor technology, but the old sensors were essentially a ball bearing that with enough impact with come loose and contact the electrical contacts, the safing sensor in the ecu must also register the impact.
once a primary sensor and the safing sensor have met the impact requirements to confirm it isn't just a sensor fault, the airbags will deploy as needed.

I'm not saying dodgy airbags are ok, I'm saying I have NEVER seen a pink slip guy do any kind of check for airbags. Fuck most of them just glimpse under the car for leaks/bald tyres and gimme cash!!!!Originally posted by Euroboost View PostRemoving airbags, or dodgey repairs on them, on a road car is stupid and dangerous. they will/should fail the car if the srs/airbag lamp is on the dash because of a fault.
but if you removed the globe, they may not even notice during a basic pinkslip.
but every mechanic will target things differently, some are paro about windscreen washers, some are paro about engine mounts, some are paro about tyres, some don't give a shit, but each mechanic will usually target something differently.
i would love to do a test with a car without misc working shit, worn out parts etc and see who picks up on what, the statistics might be suprising.
hell there is one guy i know that is paro about headlight alignment and fails every car almost because he checks with the tool, 99% of other mechanics would not even check lamps other then to check for blown globes.
hell some check the engine numbers when it's not required because they don't understand blueslip vs pinkslip.
go figure...
they are all different.
