200a AC/DC tig's are cheap these days. Buy one, and you will not regret it.

You can pick up chinese tig welders for under a grand. It'll pay for itself the first time you don't have to pay towies/fabricators/etc to get exhaust/intercooler work done.

yeah you might be right....but my TIG payed for itself when I was selling some LCA braces for U12's last year. For what I've fabricated / will be fabricating in aluminium, it's a big investment initially but compared to what I would be paying for parts that I can weld up myself, i'm saving quite a bit more.

I bought mine on ebay for $630 (AC/DC 200a with pedal & reg)

coupla weeks of low bidding eventually paid off.

Its sure tempting to get a TIG, but i dont do enough Alu as it is.

I reckon ill just weld some steel brackets to hold it in place for testing.

Same kinda deal, I got mine from Token Tools in NSW for $990 delivered, was watching them for about 3 months before a good deal came up and I won it.

You got a real fucking good deal mate, I paid another $300 for the pedal for mine!!! It was worth it though, my welding improved 100%.

Hare and Forbes sell a Unimig branded chinese 200a AC/DC tig for about $1600.

Takai, once you have the ability to do aluminium, you will do a lot, trust me.

was pretty happy with the price thats for sure.

have always had a MIG (and recently a stick for smaller/portable jobs) but got sick of paying $20 here $50 there for alloy work.

Higher on my priority list than a TIG is a new mill.

I really dont know my TIG welders but as far as ebay ACDC TIG's go its the most basic of the lot.

ie, mine will pulse weld, arc weld and probably a heap of other shit i've yet to figure out.

I'd honestly hang out for a bargain mate, took me a coupla weeks but was well worth the wait (mine is virtually a carbon copy of the $1500 trade tools model)
