In a perfect world you'd have called them and said "hey my payment is going to be late" and they'd have said "no problems, as long as we get it within X days"
The fact that you didn't creates a few issues, but yes as stated if you can show "intent" then the finer details of when you made the payment are not really that important.
I know for a fact that I'd settle any claim where someone had paid late (within reason). Having paid late does not prejudice the insurer's position, as long as your details haven't changed.
