Don't leaner than 14.7:1 ratios lead to higher combustion temps and therefore a rise in NOX emissions?

I'd surmise (and happily stand corrected) that the rise in NOx emissions comes about just as much from the fact that with less petrol in there to burn, there's actually some oxygen left than can be used for combustion of Nitrogen??? rather than peak temps per se.

It's one of those things that irks me about peak oil alarmists. If there was any truth to it, then the goal should be improved bfsc, so less fuel is used per hp produced, worldwide, so we won't run out as quickly. And 'be damned' the effects of NOx emissions

if you can get it at the pump.

Most places are selling barrels of it for $500-550

I suppose that depends if you want to live in cities where smog would be much worse. It's the argument against more widespread use of diesel for passenger cars.

To which I'd reply (and I won't go off topic any further I promise) that the 'real' crisis, if there ever was one, would be of sheer population. Reduce or cap the population, and hey presto we aren't capable of overtaxing natural resources. And that's where it gets really fishy. You see, carbon trading and the like will likely only ever be pushed hard against 3rd world countries (unless anyone really sees china and the US coming to the party fully) and it prevents their economic growth and prosperity. The weird thing there is that there is a fairly significant inverse correlation with economic prosperity and population - i.e. impoverished shitholes tend to have the biggest family sizes and population growth. Let them develop their country (ostensibly more emissions short term) and lower birth/population rate and _overall_ in fact less pollution potentially, due to more realistically viable population worldwide....

What is the effect on emissions using this stuff?

ie hypothetically speaking, if one's single turbo LS1 were to be defected on emissions grounds, would converting to E85 be a simple way for the problem to go away?
