Make sure you hold up a DIY PF flag or m1 300 sticker if top gear is there and they happen to film you! Gotta represent!

I'm betting on 115 for us!

Getting absolutely hammered at work this week, think I'll be useless for the first half of the rally.

James(organiser) did mention very early on in the piece last year, that he was thinking about or trying to see if we could get onto the circuit to do a lap or two.. like they did at Bathurst last year. But given that the V8's are on there the following week and the drags are on the a day or so after we blow into town... they may not want us there dropping oil and 3000 empty stubbies all over the track...

So.......whats everyone's thoughts on alcohol through the dry communities, reading the rally manual it all seems too easy.

.... But talking to an aboriginal bloke I work with today about it (knows exactly where we are going, has been there many times) he reckons we are taking a pretty sizeable risk.

Reckons atleast a few of us will be picked off at random by the boys in blue to have our cars searched, mentioned the fines are astronomical as well.

Edit: Looks like he was pretty spot on

                        Alcohol restrictions
The maximum amount of alcohol that a person can have in Doomadgee is 22.5 litres (2x30 can cartons) of light or mid-strength beer - no wine and no spirits. This amount is per person on foot or per vehicle, boat or aircraft regardless of the number of people in it.

                        Penalties
Maximum penalties for possessing illegal alcohol in Doomadgee:
                        first offence $37,500
                        second offence $52,500 and/or 6 months imprisonment
                        third offence $75,000 and/or 18 months imprisonment
Vehicles found carrying alcohol above the set limits in the restricted area may be confiscated.
It is also an offence to attempt to bring illegal alcohol into the restricted area. The maximum penalty is $37,500.
A maximum penalty of $19,000 will apply to offenders who:
                        possess a home-brew kit or a component of a home-brew kit
possess equipment or a component of equipment that is being used or has been used to brew alcohol
                        possess home-brew concentrate
supply homemade alcohol to another person in Doomadgee
The on the spot fine for drinking in a public place is $100 or $300 if under the age of 18. The maximum penalty for possessing alcohol in a dry place is $1900.
These penalties apply to all people living in, travelling through, visiting or working in the restricted area.

                        Thoughts?

Surely the organisers would have contacted the authorities and gotten a definitive answer?

It is definitely not uncommon to be checked and have vehicles thoroughly searched in such areas.

Depends on how lucky you reckon you are. It does happen, and not infrequently, that people get busted for carrying grog through dry communities.
