Cal I've only ever driven two e30's. Both with 2.7 conversions (I think)

It might be about the "purist driving experience" to some but it would have to be mildly entertaining for someone like me.

Well that depends on where you drive. It's like an MX5. Pretty fucking boring on the highway or down the 1/4. Many shits and giggles in the twisties, despite only having 100kw.

pov pack 318i's are already lights - my rego papers say 1040, and thats before the AC was removed. 325is 's are over 1200 I beleive with their mod cons

However, I might read up on some of the lightening options - never done that to any car.

Do the E30's have the unboltable front end like Turbo351's 325?
I own a two and a half litre Commodore

My 89 318i was 1080 on the papers. It had A/C and power steer, but manual-crank sunroof & windows, no trip computer, no map light mirrors, no sports options at all, actually. My previous 89 325, which had all sport options, was 1280. I think the iX models are up near 1400.

I've got CF door cards from a mob in England which will replace the standard trims, plus I'm hacking the loom down to remove all ths shit I no longer need (which is a fair bit). There is - conservatively - 10kg of matting I've taken off the firewall (cabin side and engine bay side), plus the dash skin itself could be lightened fairly substantially. DTM Fibre Werkz in the US actually make a CF dash but I don't know if its any lighter than stock. Seeing their other products makes me think that's unlikely.

I'll be using a stick-on Dynamat reflective heat shielding product on the firewall and in the trans tunnel to keep heat from reaching stupid levels while keeping weight down. I'm also thinking about having a light fibreglass sunroof plug made up, though the stock metal lid isn't that heavy. There are also fibreglass and carbon fibre guards, bonnets and boots available for these things, or you could search for the uber-rare South African-only 325iS Schnitzer, which had aluminium hanging panels to replace the steel ones.

Didn't they make about none of those? There was another rare Seth Efrican model too, the 333i

No, its all spot welded, though I can think of about half a dozen who have modified them to be bolt on.

One of my favourite E30s is Jake Larson's old 320iS with a slighty warmed over 2.0 litre S14. Quite impressive around the 'ring with a 8:26 BTG.
