    much appreciated Q!

This is still a couple of years away, but the 997 C2S definately sounds more like the car for me for 95% of the use it would get

For two cars with so much in common, they are fundamentally different to drive.

          996 GT3
          Pros
TACTILE !!! - this is the closest 911 you will find to an early 911 in steering & chassis tactility.
No electronic aids other than ABS
You will work hard to quick - but very rewarding when you do.
Handling is very adjustable. Handling is very predictable. Even Q could drift his !!
Freakily comfortable !! They are firm but never harsh.
A set of diff gears, and you have a flat 12sec car

          Cons
NOISE & driveline vibration are the killers for daily use. I used mine as a daily for a year. Great on Monday morning, an absolute killer by Thursday night in peak hour traffic....
Interior can only be described as industrial. Absolutely nothing appealing inside - other than the glorious engine noise.
Need to look carefully to find a good one these days. A lot were used as Nations Cup cars, and then returned to street trim. That said, I know where there is one with 115km !!!! :D
Not all came with a/c ....so check !!!

          997 C2S
          BEST all rounder EVER.
Fast, tactile, agile, comfortable. Idiot proof handling. Really easy to be quick in.
It lacks the extreme noise & tactility of the 996 GT3. It is easier to live with than the GT3
Same power output as 996 GT3.
Great interior. the first decent stereo Porsche have ever had. All the mod cos like sat nav that make them easy to live with everyday.
There are lots of little [& big] upgrades you can do to increase the tactility.
ie: 997 GT3 gearshift mechanism. $200. Best gear change EVER
          wheel spacers
          coilovers
.....awesome track day warrior with zero compromises !

          cons
          Hard to really criticise.
Personally, I dont like the electronic suspension around town. Always seems a bit bouncy. [Sport mode is nice.]
They can look bland with the Carrera front bar
Awesome looking GT3 front bar is $$$

          WHICH ONE TO BUY
If you decide before you drive the two of them, YOU ARE DOING IT ALL WRONG.
          Go and drive both.
Drive them fast ! Drive them slow in everyday situations.

.......the right one for you will become VERY obvious, VERY quickly

          my old 996 GT3 Clubsport

          {one of} my old 997 C2S
Q, can you give me your rundown on the 996 GT3 and the 996 Turbo? .. more as a race/rally thing?

Add pics to stick with the porsche porn theme

Makes the price make sense really. If money was no object I would do it.
