I personally think the wheels are the only bit of the Singer which doesn't look quite right, not sure if it's the diameter or the offset but there is something wrong there.Originally posted by Boxer View PostGonna go against the flow and say the Singer better looking than that - dont like the wheels tucked so far behind the guardsImagination is more important than knowledge.

I do remember reading that article in Octane years ago, it was very good, it's not everyday you read an article track testing a Fezza 512 vs a 917.
But there were a couple of comments which stood out, one was that the motor will run all day at 8199rpm, but blows up with germanic precision if you actually go 1rpm more than that. And that the gearbox is a bit of a pig, with every shift like shifting into 1st gear on a normal gearbox.
Here in this vid, you can hear that even Derek Bell kinda struggles with it

Jalopnik are wrong. Do you know who David Piper is?Originally posted by Stix Zadinia View Postjalopnik says it was a replica
and what sort of fucking retard can't fit a 7100RPM rev limiter from pelican parts for $26?"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Ah, I knew Piper played that game with 250LM, P3 and P4 Ferraris, didn't know he did that with 917s. Reading about Piper's part in the origin and verification of the Glickenhaus P3/4 reinforces the opinion you've formed Trem.Originally posted by tremolo View PostIt was a replica - made from genuine Porsche parts tho
Chris Harris has a good article about it on pistonheads. Piper sounds like a fuckwit tbh
Always thought Piper's 917 was his Privateer car from 70/71ish."Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. It's not like Mark Hales was just some hack who borrowed the car. He's a very experienced driver and journalist - I would think if Nick Mason trusts him with his collection it's a fair bet he's not going to cock aroundThe person who proof read Hitler's speeches was literally a grammar Nazi

So legal costs for *both* parties were more than the repairs. By a long way, considering there was a "loss of use" amount in the decision.
A) that must hurt Hale badly. He gambled and lost essentially. Paying for a rebuild (or possibly, I would guess, contribution if he offered it immediately) would have been much less costly.
B) Piper sounds like an a grade prick. It was obviously not about the money for him, just the principal. I bet if the decision was reversed he wouldn't be losing is house. You must really be pissed off (or a childish, vindictive cunt) to bury someone like that.
