That car cost me an absolute fortune chasing an unreliability problem that would pop it's head up at random intervals.
It's the only car i have ever owned that nobody could find the actual problem, and guess who's money was used to try and chase the issue? Mine.
I had that car for 4 years, spent $35K all up including purchase and "sorting it", and I got about 4000 reliable k's out of it.
My $2700 Mercedes-Benz has been far more reliable than the 951 ever was.
Perhaps it was just that example, but i will never ever set foot in another one of those turds after going through that experience....and i have had a lot of euro cars in my time to compare it to.

Rowds,
The issue was the car would start and run fine one day, and not the next, for no apparent reason. Plus other random electrical issues, sunroof works, now it doesn't. Lights go up, now they don't. That sorta shit.
We looked at all the wiring, earths, relays, injectors, dizzy, ECU, all sorts of stuff, the car sat in a Porsche specialist in Briso for 4 weeks and ran fucking perfectly except for one instance where it didn't want to catch, they got everything ready to check injectors and relays etc and the fucking thing then started and ran fine. It was just completely random.
I always keep my cars in good working and reliable order, that's just me. I just couldn't rely on it and it was my daily/only car at the time. To say it frustrated the fuck out of me would be an understatement.
Edit : Paid $17500 for it.

Yeah, he has fixed it several times now with no problems until it got up to it's old tricks again, so he hasn't fixed it at all yet, and he is a german car mechanic.Originally posted by Cal View PostWho fixed it and has never had a problem with it since.

Actually what you’re seeing is the result of all the bashing the front engine owners have experienced for decades. “Get a real Porsche” echoes endlessly. I’d love many of the awesome examples of rear engine Porsches in this thread but am always sticking up for the front engine/water pumpers. Having experienced just how good the 944 turbo can be I am a convert. I’ve gone way over the top compared to most owners but you can buy a reasonable example for say $15k and if you dropped another $15k-$20k you would have a genuine supercar for less than $50k. Sure, it’s from another era and sure you’re always going to have issues with any car from the 1980’s but that is a given. Alternatively you can buy a 911 from the 1980’s probably starting at just around $50k that does 140mph and 0-100kmh in 7.5 seconds. That 944 turbo will do 160mph and do 0-100kmh in about 4 seconds. You can then spend $50k on the 911 and short of forced induction, you might get another 20whp out of it. Realise that this is not all about flat out performance. A huge part of owning/driving a 911 is just how tactile the experience is and I’m all for it. But I really do like the looks of a warmed 951 and they’re rarer than the 911 by a long shot out here. Each to their own I suppose.Originally posted by Stix Zadinia View PostI'd have much more time for 944s/924s if every time one was mentioned people didn't show up trying to state how much better they are than a 911
not that i'm saying that 911's are better, but they're different cars and should be appreciated as such
