Dont non Turbo V8s have some weird cylinder lining stuff that makes them not worth considering 2nd hand?

They're expensive to service along with all the associated auto/elec box niggles.

Despite all the hate they seem to get I think they're good value for money though. The BMW's in that market are also great buying too. Merc's, a little more moolah.

I think the equivalent Merc (ML55 I suppose) is probably going to be a better car long term. The E70 X5 is a pretty shitty car really. Every one Ive worked on has been a creaky unreliable piece of shit. The E53's were a better built car. Just curious about the Cayennes. What big stuff goes wrong?

          No. Buy it.

Benz equivalent is the ml55, but if you want 7 seats, lots more space generally and a proper 4wd look at gl500 which still has the 5.5 amg v8...

I have no legitimate reason for buying an SUV other than the nopics likes them. Ive always liked the W164 ML diesels though, they are cheap as chips now too. Thats definitely the (boring) sensible option.

That must be pre-2007 with the 4.5L? I considered one, but went with a newer (2008) "S" with the 4.8L engine. Supposedly less issues than the old 4.5, MUCH better on fuel than the turbos (especially the old ones) and a bit less to go wrong. I use mine off road frequently though, so didn't need/want the turbo. Picked mine up a couple of months ago for $45k. Great so far, and I've done 6000km in it in the last 4 weeks.

                45K for a 2008 S? How many kms.

94,000km. Was asking $51k, but had already had a new cayenne delivered, so he was very keen to move it.
