I'll ask the question another way: what else for $40k would you buy in preference to a 996 for driving enjoyment, assuming you want something relatively recent? Early Cayman maybe if they're cheap enough now?

Stepping out of it and into my BP5 liberty 3.0 on ohlins with R comps was faster, better braking, better handling, better steering, nicer interior, much better sounding.

Modern Mx5 would surely be 11ty times better than old fucked NA 996 shitbox that's porsche's equivalent to the camira in terms of car fuckups.

Haha yes the helmet sucked but I'm a tall cunt. First time for me so not sure if the track has changed but it isn't a bad layout. The 911 was ludicrous, felt so weird as it was the first time I've driven anything rear engined but did it corner! I did 8 laps in the heavy slut R35 first and that felt so fucking fast, stepping from that to the GT3 was like night and day. The instructor was great in showing me how to get the 911 to turn which was really weird with the rear weight also #datsound. The GTR was almost easy to drive but so so quick if I had the money I'd be grabbing one! GT3 is god tier though but I'll never be that rich

If Cracka's list of hotted up shopping cars and warmed over family sedans etc, and an MX-5, is better than a 996, then yeah, Porsche must have dropped the ball badly there.

Edit: okay, that's being very harsh of some of the cars there which are quite good, but you'd still expect a two generations old 911 to be better than any new or newish $40k car.

Spend the extra $23k on upgrades. Have very fast very good handling and somewhat rare sports car that will smash most of those mentioned above and look good doing it!

I had booked 12c, it was out of action, so they gave me double the laps in it so ended up with 16 laps

I went Z06, 35R, Porka last.

The GTR is a fast car, driven plenty.

991 made it feel slow. It took me 4 laps to figure out how to keep up with it. It felt faster, sharper and a much better drivers car. I always imagined buying a Lambo with lotto money.. Id probably buy a Turbo S instead.
