the targa and cabriolet were substantially more than a coupe when new. I'm with uncle though, not sure a coupe will ever be cheaper than either. There are a few people in the US with welded in panels to stiffen the targa (and even special permanent roof inserts - but the only answer is a roll cage) or not buy something that stuffed in the first place. I've had my hand in the gap between the roof and roll hoop on a targa i looked at once from body flex when it was jacked up

Shonky: ring Porsche Australia and speak to Harry Aspiotis (03 9473 0938 or harry.aspiotis@porsche.com) - He should be able to give you some details (and if it's aus delivered once you've bought it a certificate of authenticity) I'm happy to have a look at it for you sometime if you'd like too

I agree with you both stix / uncle except I am talking about people who will never put a roll cage in and not care! You guys are looking at them for performance, many buyers won't even know what the words scuttle shake mean, and if all they ever do is boulevard cruise their 911 cab / targa - probably never will. :p

The 911 is now 50 years old and the correct me is I'm wrong but the Targa is over 40 years old. The market has spoken on 911 veriant price along time a go.
It's not performance driven it's perception driven. Rightly or wrongly 911 without a roof has been seen as the poorer sibling to the one with one. Not many people run out and buy a 40 year old performance car on a whim. They watch the market and ask for advice. Quite often the question comes up around resale. So it becomes a self forfulling prophesy.
        Should I buy a targa?
You can but it's going to be worth less that a coupe long term.
Oh ok fuck that then I want to get my money back at some point.
It's been like that for good 30 years so it's not going to change any time soon.

There is no way the targa and cab will be worth more. They will increase nicely, especially with the new Targa 991, they wont be the hero.
          Speedster's are already up there.
Porsche values are nearly always related to racing, a model with close ties to its racing cousin will be the ones, after that it depends on rareness.
In saying that, early 911s targa in RHD (1973 only) is getting big bucks, along with early SWB soft window targa's.

I'm not sure if I've said this before on here or just offered it as advice to others via p.m but here goes.
Right now the air cooled market is soaring but unlike the local muscle car boom to bust it's world driven. Good right hook cars are being sold here back to the UK due to lack of rust and left hook grey imports to the US are being returned to Europe. Not at all rare to see a good stock 930 sell back to Germany for 120+USD.
The local G series market is getting stupid with 3.2 G50 cars selling for what used to be 930 money. 930's are now all but unobtainable for a good condition stocker ADM car at under 90k you might get a roughy for 60 or 70 but it's going to cost you money at some point not to far away or is an import.

I am still kicking myself that I didn't buy a 912 like 10 years back when they were cheap.

Anyone think that the rising prices will drag up other models like 914, 924 etc etc?

tried buying a 914 of late?
I don't think 924/944/928's are ever going to come up as much as air cooled unfortunately

I know you're right, but stop saying that! I'm at least four years away from being able to buy one, and the prices are going to keep on going up. Frustrating.

Fuck that. "My centre caps point towards the valve caps" or "I've got my concourse motor in"

No italics they both really are a thing.

                                cheers mate, just emailed Harry

Will wait out for now on the inspection, as I don't want to engage the owner further and risk him bringing forward its sale until i'm cashed up and have decided whether I want it or not (its been sitting for 2 years and he talks about how he needs to do something with it)

Further snooping has revealed the donk and box are VERY oily, plus god knows what sitting idle has done for its condition

                                thanks for the offer
