No, the seller declares the value of the order.

Because it exceeds $1000AUD, customs will spot it and charge you 10% GST plus any other duties applicable to the item.

Only if the value of the items (ex-shipping) is >$1000. Now if it is >$1000 they charge you GST on the shipping charge too.

Yeah nengun shipped my wheels in packages of 2 and seperated the shipments by 2 days so they passed through customs seperately. Ended up reaching me on the same day as the first set landed friday night and the other sunday. Cleared customs and made it to the same van as did a set of coilovers from another vendor.

Basically had $5k worth of stuff come through customs in 2 days and not of it got pinged.

Got friends in Customs, they reckon they don't care and it's not worth it to go after people hard for dodging it like that.

Everyone in customs also hates Gerry Harvey because they had to do a shitload of work to prove that it wasn't worth going after shit under 1k.
