Yes get checks done. On the upside, being in a caryard youn could easily get them to knock 1k off the price.

You're buying an MX5 aren't you......Originally posted by Falchoon View PostLOL $8K for a VP! :rotflol:
It wasn't a Gullwing Merc, just a Mazda (n/a 4cyl not rotor). I'm a bit fussy on colour as well as the condition and kms and this one was just what I wanted. I've just seen another one, a couple of years younger at a caryard in Sydney with 20K less kms (second choice colour) but for about a grand more. Do you still need to proceed with all the checks if you are buying from a caryard and the car has three year warranty?

Or the seller got an offer and sold it. Money talks.Originally posted by Scuba-Steve View PostAlways get all the checks done. Sounds a bit dodgy that he avoided you then said it was sold when you wanted to get the inspections.
Yep and include a note on the deposit. Subject to CLEAR TITLE and no faults up to $xxx amount the repair. That way you will get your money back if the car isn't up to scratch or atleast have a negotiation point.Originally posted by bunnyfart View Postlearn to put a deposit down
most honest guys will honor someone that puts a deposit down while getting the checks done, then if it checks out buy it

I normally put a deposit down subject to being satisfied with the inspection. I get it made out in writing and signed by the owner. Has worked for me every time.
It happens though, half the time you call up on a Saturday morning to organise to go see a car it's already sold. There'll be another one out there. Some people just don't bother getting inspections, but I'd prefer the piece of mind.

Depends if you are mechanically minded or not. A revs check is a definite and I usually do that before I bother making a trip out to see a car.
With the car you viewed, it is possible the owner CBF'ed dealing with someone who wanted to take the car to a mechanic, especially if he has had others come and fuck him around prior to you rocking up and he dropped the price for a quick sale.
All comes down to how confident you feel in buying the car without a mechanic viewing, clearly you didn't so you did the right thing.Pain is temporary, quitting is forever - Lance Armstrong (drug cheat)

a dealer has a car 2 years newer & 20 000km LESS
for an extra $1k with warranty
.hmmmm.....so much for dealers being stealers.
yes, still do mechanical checks. 3 year warranty is just a crap insurance policy masquerading as a warranty
there is your mistakeOriginally posted by Falchoon View PostI've emailed several owners through carsales.com.au and only one has bothered to reply .

Carsales is a PITA. I guess iI should expect to deal with drongos when selling a $2500 VP, but seriously, wtf??
"Offer you $500 cash - what is your address"
"What is your lowest price that you will accept" Kind of understand this question, but no other questions were asked whatsoever.
"I'll be there at 9:30 Sunday, definitely no later than 10:00" - No show
"Do you have the original purchase receipt for the car" (It's 17 years old with clear title and rego papers...)
"What mods have you done" (Stock with wheels, as per the detailed advertisement)
