    It's not a MX5, promise!
    Actually a 323 SP20 - oh and manual!
The one at the car yard is actually on ebay, what are the warranty implications with that?
Should I bypass ebay and just contact the car yard directly?
On ebay it has a "make an offer" button, should I make an offer before I see the car - I know that pisses me off when I'm trying to sell a car, I don't mind so much if someone says "it needs new tyres and the tailight is broken so I'll give you $XXXXX".
What's a reasonable/fair amount of money to knock off the price - it's $8900 now, I don't want to offfer too low and miss out, I'm happy to pay reasonable price but obviously the less the better. I was thinking $8400?
Sorry with all the Qs, I've only ever bought shitters for a couple of grand before and one brand new car so I'm a bit of a n00b at buying 'good' second hand cars.

Shouldn't matter if it is selling on ebay. It is being sold by a yard, therefore they have to give the three months warranty as mandated by law.

I would probably deal directly with the yard. It is too easy on ebay for people to either not sell the item (say it has sold elsewhere, etc) or not buy the item (just dissapear and cancel ebay account). Dealing directly with the yard solces both problems.

I wouldn't rush into anything. There's 99 other choices on Carsales to choose from, and don't muck around making offers on something unseen.

Car yard prices? I'd start at $7k and work up, but only if I'd actually seen the car.

If you were buying an RX7 SP you'd think about offering unseen, but something this common just take your time and inspect as many as possible.

Personally I'd buy privately - you save a few grand, and car yard warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on. Also consider a Laser XR2 - it's the same car, but cheaper (and uglier, admittedly).

If Im selling a car Im not going to bother driving it around to mechanics getting it checked, pink slipped, etc unless Ive got a deposit.

Why youd even bother looking at a car without a bit of a deposit in your hand is beyond me. Hell, even a couple hundred bucks to show youre legit (unless the owner is a swede)

There was only three others on carsales that I would seriously consider, two I have emailed twice and they won't get back to me and the other (600km away), the owner rang me back in 5 mins but I really don't want to go all that way even though it's a one owner car serviced every 5000km. Plus it is $1000 dearer than the one at the car yard and has more km and is older, so much for your theory of private being cheaper.

                It's a good theory.

Generally if a car yard is $1000 cheaper than a private sale, it's because the car is $3000 more fucked.

Go have a look though. Don't muck around over the internet.

Fuck me there's some namby pamby woman type shit going on here. Oh no he won't reply to my emails what a terrible human being he must be. You wanna talk to the fuckers pick up the phone and call them ffs.

$8ks not exactly a fortune, read a few websites, learn how to inspect it yourself, get on the model specific forums and find out common faults to lookout for. They're late model, low kay and with service history, it's not like your buying some cut and shut repairable write off or a dunger Corolla some idjiot slapped an import motor into.

I still reckon you are buying an MX5 by the way you are shopping.

If there's one you like, put a deposit down. I'd much rather sell a car to someone who comes and has a look, puts a deposit down and takes it over someone who wants me to drive it to a mechanic.

When I was selling my Rodeo, a guy called and started to tell my mine was overpriced (despite the fact it was the lowest km and price wise on carsales) and he just missed out on a later model one for alot cheaper than what I had mine advertised for. I asked why he was telling me all this and got silence out of him.

Shit me off, so I just told him I wasnt interested in selling the car to him, bye!

yeah i wouldnt have taken it anywhere for you. maybe im a cunt, id happily give you engine/vin numbers etc but as far as running the car to your mechanic for him to go over it.... nah i wouldnt. Im pretty straight up when selling a car, but thats the joys of a s/hand car.

But why wouldnt you? If youre honest about the car youve got nothing to worry about, so if a quick inspection puts the buyers mind at ease....why wouldnt you?

Having a quick chat with the inspecting mechanic when you drop the car off never hurts. If he sees youre being honest about it and have a clue what youre talking about, he'll often be less of a stupid cunt.

Flat out denying anyones requests to have the car looked at by a mechanic is obviously going to scare alot of people off.

surely an MX5 is less of a bumhole fingerer than a 323 SP20

Time. thats the only reason. Im sure if i felt secure enough about letting someone take the car there themselves (ie something was left with me) I wouldnt care.
I have had one car I sold someone got an NRMA inspection done and came back to me with a list of trivial shit, such as 1 bolt missing on radiator shroud etc, mind you it was a 14yr old imported skyline. i told the bloke to wake up n use common sense. since then i care not for someone else's opinion on something im selling.

Yeah Ive had bad experiences with NRMA/RACQ but if the buyer isnt a rear car person its going to be hard explaining to them why the biggest motoring authority in the country is shit.
