      All this talk of "6-point sockets"....

      They all mean use a QUALITY IMPACT SOCKET. Not some piece of chinese junk or a conventional crv socket. Thats a beginner's mistake that has caught many people out before you.

      I have an ABW 14mm deep impact socket especially for this job.

      On re-installation, as others say, buy a box of new head bolts they are torque-to-yield. You will also need a torque angle guage to complete the job.

            i pick up a set of them reverse easy outs yesterday and fucked the 3/8 to 1/2 drive i had. so i got a beter one today so i will see if i kill the fuckers. also bought a inpact driver socket. would be great if my compressor didnt shit it self and i still had a rattle gun. that would have been the easy way.

            i looked at it tonight and thought fuck you, tomorrow is another day, even thou i have to work till 4.30. fuck i hate xmas. went and hired a car so i have transport till xmas. just have to get this head off so i can try and get it machined before xmas. also bought a breaker bar and a big fuck off piece of pipe.

              actually better to use a breaker bar than a rattle gun. Reason being, the bolts on the exhaust side can be brittle, not so much of a problem on the AU, but the 3.9 and 4L motors have been known to snap headbolts when you are removing them. The hammer function of a rattle gun can sheer the heads off the bolt.

                          finally got the cunt of a thing off. fuck me they are tight. was a combination of big fuck off hammer. very big breaker bar and them reverse easy out things.

                          looks like the head gasket was on its way out so just as well i pulled it off. some pretty serious corosion inside the water jackets so i would imagine the previous owner didnt keep the maintence up on the thing.

                          debating on weather i keep the thing after spending so much money on it, and repairs are a tax deductions. it is comfy and it owes me fuck all, and i really dont want to buy another ute.

                          so question is. head is off what cam do i wack in it, how much do i shave off the head, and what extractors should i wack on it.

                          mods can you move this to general car section ?
