I believe there is a limitation, but it's 7 or 10 years or so...

Racing incident, small claims court won't make you pay.*

This may or may not be correct

Taxi companies do try this on... The damaged car probably no longer exists (as a taxi) and the driver is probably long gone.

They will expect that you have no evidence of the damage done to the taxi. I suppose you could send the pic back and say you'd like to get an independent quote to fix the damage - lol

Sure its a common courtesy to make space, but I don't think its a legal requirement. We all know what taxi drivers dont understand common courtesy though
As others have said there were 3 lanes ....I suspect that he thought he would chop in behind me but didnt expect the trailer to be there. His passenger was distraught...he was on the way to the airport to an international flight and was already late...Im guessing the passenger may have been pushing him to get to the airport a bit quicker.

Reading between the lines you would have to think taxi companies would have a hundred accidents like this...maybe one in every ten just pay up to avoid the headache of court etc

Just write a letter with a fake letter head telling them to fuck off and it should disappear.

More than likely that car no longer exists and the driver is long gone too.

Did you ever go through your insurance or advise them of the incident ?

I had the same thing happen to me, bloke in a cab opened the door into traffic, collecting my car.

Insurance said it wasn't my fault, cops said it wasn't my fault, the ultimate responsibility fell with the cab, and chasing the bloke who opened the door themselves if they wish too.

Any way, 18 months later I got a claim for pretty much the same amount as they chasing you for.

Told my insurance and the bloke said they will take complete care of it and its a pretty well known practice for cab insurance to do.

Yep, it's very common. A mate of mine had a cabbie reverse into him, same letter much after the incident. Just wrote back a 'fuck off' letter that looked formal and it went away.

Every insurance claim has a Statute of limitations (not Statue )

Saying that I never said anything about Statute of limitations so shove your head up your own ass and give yourself a internal gobby cunt! :knock:

A mate of mine got picked up by a taxi and whilst reversing out the driveway backed straight into his own car that was parked across the road, the taxi guy goes 'I won't say anything if you don't' (but in curry voice)
