I had a 280SE W116 with a 4.0L EL Falcon Barra engine installed.. swapped it for part price off my 6.9SE. The due who got it gave it to a mate, but has finally just got it back to whack a turbo on it.. he bought his own workshop and has space to finish it. Funnily enough, I had a custom badge made up for it which will be fitted eventually that is - 400SE.. they never made it so the benz old men will scratch their heads.

But honestly, the 450SEL has most potential.. or fitting the M117 V8 engine to the Finny would be fucking sick.

As said above, do the timing chain and guides. I've witnessed a blown engine (funnily enough @ MB Spares) when the timing chain was left too long. As they don't have ratchet tensioner, start up and if no oel pressure in tensioner - boom.

Anyway, if you need to be looked after for any parts for any of them - PM me. MB Spares look after me for the 6.9 and John Green imports the parts direct from manufacturer (before Merc-Benz stamp their name and add 200% to the price).

I also have a spare AMG front spoiler (like that shown on the brown 280 above) and can get mould done and copy made for you if you want.

That finnie is well fucked. Salvage whatever is good from it and scrap it.

The 450 looks good, coat of paint, some TLC and slammed on some fat rubber should see it become a tidy cruiser.

With the 280 I reckon it would look awesome 'rat-style'. Dropped hard with a bit of rake on some old-school rims and a turbo Falcon six under the bonnet.

220 and 280 look pretty much finished. 450 looks like a good clean and freshen up is about all it needs (maybe a quick blow over respray).
