You don't need a puller, it just makes it easier, draw a little diagram of how the serpentine belt runs too, it's bloody confusing sometimes! (depends on beers consumed) Other than that it's easy as shit to do!

The cold water test sounds like a great trick!

Another possibility if it's not the CAS is the security ring contact thingo on the ignition. If that doesn't make a good contact it can fire up then die straight away.

well, in typical style for me the piece of crap refused to fault today.

I idled it in the carport for 20 minutes then pulled the fan relay and let the cunt get good and hot and switched it off to heat soak.

Hit the key and the bugger started first kick.

Probably tried starting it 20 or 30 times today and no problem.

A mate of seems to agree with the CAS consensus, and also suggested DFI module as a problem in these cars.

I think ill chuck the balancer puller and a spare CAS in the car and if i have to ill replace it on the side of the bloody road.

VE safari, i think if your whole post is caps it wont let you. old mate put CAS then put other shit underneath. your original post must have only contained 'CAS' i would imagine...

wouldnt crank if that was the problem.

                  Nah, no lpg

ill probably just change the CAS, might save me more grief even if something else is the cause.

Why wouldnt it register a fault code if the thing plays up?

I've had a similar problem with the multi plug thingy that hooks into the coil pack. Cleaned & tensioned all teh contacts & solved problem.

I wouldn't rule out the fuel pump dying either. My old VS did one pump and I think the replacement was playing silly buggers when we got rid of the heap of shit. Funnily enough never had CAS problems, even with 200,000+km on the clock.

Yes it does. It fires up, then it dies almost immediately after.
But my money is on CAS too.

It won't be the key ring thingy, that stops it cranking, had to fix mine the other week. Takes about 10 seconds to fix. The CAS doesn't register as the ecu has no way to tell that the engine is running without the CAS so it assumes it is not turning and does nothing.

As other have said, the common bits are CAS, DFI module (including the connection being dud) and the fuel pump.

                            Thanks Ben, that makes sense.

probably my own fault but the piece of cunt crap shat out again, left me stuck out front of enzed in dandy for a fucking hour and a half.

on the plus side, the friendly sikh patrolman from racv agrees with my initial fuel pump diagnosis, especially after he gave the fuel tank a whack with a steel bar while i cranked it and the fucker fired, so i made haste and got it home.

So cheers to that guy, and jeers to the idiot phone bitch who sent a battery cunt the first time after i made damn sure to tell her its NOT a battery issue after she asked a million battery related questions.

are there any brands of fp to steer clear of?

I was just going to get one from Ripco (got a mate who works there)

word on the commonwhore forums is that youre better off getting a decent genuine s/h pump as it will most likely last longer than a newer low quality made one.

theres heaps of vs' at centre rd self srve too so you could pocket 2 and just pay for one
