Best bet is about 1-2k more than Toyota's GTS. And only one model with similar spec to GTS.
Yep, the spec of the BRZ is pretty much identical to the GTS in other markets so there is no way Subaru Oz could price this any more than a couple of k over the Toyota price (unless they want it to fail)

I prefer the BRZ front and dash to the 86 but not so much that id be willing to pay much over the toyota price for it

umm, the 86 and BRZ have already trumped the MX-5 in every way in the comparisons done so far....

So I think I want one, but if I have to wait 6 months I might change my mind before it gets here. Anyone got any good clauses I can throw into the contract so I can get out of it if I so choose?

??? Really? I haven't been paying too much attention to it, but it has been getting less than great reviews in Europe.

THe one bad review it got (afaik) is the Autocar one above, and half the reason for that was because they were punting an auto around a track instead of a manual

Its not like a WRX or S15 back in the day where you could mod it up a little to make it faster/more fun. This is going to be pretty slow. Chucking rims and suspension at it isn't the point of the car. You take away the stock "driftability/fun handling". You just raise the speed threshold at which point it is fun. So I wonder how many people are going to buy one (especially without driving it) and then wonder what all the fuss was about a few months later.
I'm not too concerned to be honest. I know for myself I've gotten bored with cars with lots of power before but I've never been bored by cars with great balance and handling

Spoke to Toyota retail contact again - the interest in the 86 has floored them and they are happily taking orders - 41 at one melbourne dealership alone.

They are gearing a finance package around the 86 - not 2.9% but he said reasonably attractive.

He indicated subaru pricing will be 12K higher than toyota.

I wouldn't be surprised if Subaru were expecting Toyota to price the GTS around the 45k mark so their planning has all been around being 2-3k above that so Toyota coming in with the lowball of the century has left them swinging in the breeze

                  Sounds like wanting more sales...
I spoke to the Subaru Dealer in Canberra.. he reckoned the BRZ pricing is going to be well under that of Toyota's.

                    lol

i'm guessing toyota and subaru have stuff all connection here?

and why they can play well in other markets its just business as usual here?

He said, she said. Toyota dealer is having a lend of himself say it will be over 12k more. Subaru dealer same for say it be we'll under. Let me say this again, the current aud prices for gt and gets ARE LESS than the JPY price. If anything you will see a price adjustment up.

Subaru have a history premium pricing. Initally Nick Senior was resisting the brz because it wasnt awd and it didnt fit subaru australias brand.

I think they have made a mistake but not launching at the same time as Toyota, as everyday missed is another day Toyotas order book fills with orders for 86s that could have been brz's.

they are around $25,000usd in yank land and £25,000 sterling in the UK

does it really matter if subaru are selling any at all? just say they are making not much on a single $35k GTS model... whether they sell 10, 100 or 1,000 they're still making fuck all on each one

toyota can possibly afford to make that slim margin, sube? maybe not

I dont think it did too well at Evo either though.......

MX5 is about 7 years old now, has to dead with no roof "structure" and runs a close to 10 year old engine (Duratec 2.0L).

I would suspect the "gap" will close up with the new MX5, and by then Toybaru will have a roofless 86 with all the drawbacks of being a chopped coupe instead of a ground-up convertible design to "compete".

But if every there was a reason for Mazda to pull their finger out and get the new Mx5 and a fixed roof variant as well the 86 is it.

Jump in a non-fucked 3.8 commodore and tell me it can't keep up with traffic... 147kw in 1200kgs from a four cylinder is pretty decent grunt.
