i dont see why any of this is relevant anyway? 99% of people on here who are buying this car are going to change the wheels and tyres straight away because they look like they belong on the top shelf at bob jane.

Hey I did all that to a car with 47 less kwOriginally posted by Cracka View PostThere will be a huge amount of people buying these, fitting 10 inch r comps, putting 12kg springs in them, and realising theyre a slow boring car now, compared to a slow fun car. I feel sorry for those muppets.

Have you driven one before criticising it? It isn't hysteria or hype. I've driven it a while back and it's actually bloody good fun (which is not the same as fast). Yes, if it had semi slicks you'd be faster but is faster = more fun?Originally posted by hrd View Postof course I'm not rushing out to buy one. I didn't fall for the marketing bs and fanboi hysteria surrounding the car.

What marketing would that be? Neither Toyota nor Subaru has run a single ad I have seen.Originally posted by hrd View Postof course I'm not rushing out to buy one. I didn't fall for the marketing bs and fanboi hysteria surrounding the car.
These things have sold on their own simply because the sort of people that enjoy driving also follow new developments, and there is no competition for this car right now. In a nutshell; cheap, RWD, small and fun to throw around. It's not a competitor to porsche or ferrari. It's a competitor to second hand M3's and second hand MX5's and modified stuff from the 70's and 80's (that still live because of the hole in the market), from the time before the love of driving was shot in the head by fuckwits on current affais shows.
It was never about fast, but about fun. A WRX or Evo only becomes fun at the stupid end of the speedo. Reports indicate this will be fun at MX5 speeds.
No-one is asking you to like it or to even understand it, because clearly you are not the person they made this car for.Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

99%? If they are mostly leased (seems to come up alot) i reckon most will stay unmolested. Considering who the hell are you going to offload the old tyres/wheels to....Originally posted by spiller View Posti dont see why any of this is relevant anyway? 99% of people on here who are buying this car are going to change the wheels and tyres straight away because they look like they belong on the top shelf at bob jane.

I wonder what this is going to do to the used car market at circa $20-30k?"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough horsepower." - Mark Donahue Penske Porsche 917

really Jim? marketing isn't just running a TV ad when its released. Your whole "its not about fast, its about fun" is their marketing line in a nutshell - you just don't seem to realise you've ingested it and are repeating it as if you thought it up yourself. Its a marketing triumph tieing it so seamlessly into peoples' nostalgia about the good old days of rwds from the 80s that you also mention...
I prefer big comfy auto barges these days, so you're right on that point - its not the car for me. Doesn't mean I don't get it - I've always been pro rwd, anti fwd/awd and had my share of fun, lower powered cars.

Low grip tyres or not, if people dont buy them then no other manufacturer is going to make a competitor. Although that doesnt seem to be a problem, a Toyota head office tech that was at my dealer launch last night stated that the lead time for stock for these is around May next year, so they must be doing something right. Its such a great base for modification, and it has some real appeal in the metal too. Heres for hoping other manufacturers follow suit!

i really think people are expecting too much for $29,990... if they put a turbo in it and made it $39,990 there'd be some complaints about that tooOriginally posted by boxxx

Is that not exactly how the MX-5 was marketed when it came out? I dont recall anyone complaining about being duped by marketing then....Originally posted by hrd View Postreally Jim? marketing isn't just running a TV ad when its released.
