I think you have me confused with someone else. I don't rate VE Commos at all.
Edit: I have you confused with marco VESS or whatever that hipster faggot leftie lesbian cunt's name is.

    You bought a 35k car.
I bought a 40k car with leather, satnav, etc & free servicing. I did the figures. For what I want, the BRZ is cheaper.

I kinda figure will also have a better resale, higher snob value compared to a toyota lexcen/holden apollo/ford maverick/toyota 86, and in general I prefer knowing I'm in a subaru for the symmetry and shit...

Well yeah, the resale will be better in $$ terms because you paid 30% more..

I doubt you've been called a lesbian before ... you've not owned a Subaru have you?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

            No, is that a prerequisite?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Especially regarding the way the 86 is being marketed in Australia. Even though the car is built by Fuji Heavy Ind. the vast majority of people out will see it as a 86 first and BRZ second, so your comparison may look like this:

              toyota lexcen/holden apollo/ford maverick/subaru brz

simply because Toyota got the jump and Subaru and is selling a shit load more (well has more stock anyway), they are certainly marketing it much more than Subaru is.

I think the BRZ will flop in Aus.

                    Why?

Pricing is ok, demand is obviously there... If there ends up being a long-term problem with supply (which I doubt) then that hardly makes the car a flop?

Mate of mine drove one.. talk about tough crowd...

Well I like the way it sits on the road, the driving position and the steering. But for all the noise that it makes... it's pretty slow. The gear change is chunky-bad. The pedals are too close together and the footwell is cramped. All in all, it's an involving car but I can't imagine using it every day... Oh, and let's not forget the upshift pinging noise normally reserved for proper silky smooth engines...

Agree with MZ, its an 86, the BRZ is the rebadge. We know different but that is how the public will see it.

To be honest who physically makes it is kinda irrelevant as well. Toyota designed the body, Subaru did the suspension most of the engineering, subaru supplied most of the engine while Toyota provided in dual/direct injection. Gearbox is an aisin which Toyota have used before (derivation of the same one that was in the S15, mx5, S2000) and Toyota provided the diff and interior. It's about as close to a joint project as you can get and who's production line it goes down is kinda irrelevant.

That said, I agree that in aus it will be seen as a Toyota which was then rebadged as a subaru but really the fault for that lies squarely in Subaru's court as they have shown every appearance of being embarrassed by it.

It is same car as we know but the public actually doesnt know that. The average joe might think its similar but not the same. Therefore it doesn't get automatic points in the eye of joe public just because the 86 does. I think because subaru aus give no fuck for marketing this car and there won't be as many of them brought in, it will affect resale in a negative way. Just because there are less of a car doesnt automatically make them valuable.

In summary, the BRZ will be to the 86 what the Ford Maverick is to the pootrol...the "other one" with a different badge.

if the Sube looked different, was faster, more luxurious you might have an argument for higher resale

but they look the same.... hell they even have the same wheels

in that light it just a footnote
