Maybe not as badly as you would think actuallyOriginally posted by PeterD View Postwas looking promising but quite under powered in todays age, even with the lowish weight!
1180kg and 145kw.
The Golf GTi has 1330kg and 152kw. That would give the Toyota the edge you would think.
So obviously not super powered, but I think the Golf GTi has 'enough' power for sure.
The Toyota might be able to pull high 6 to 100 acceleration. When I heard it was going to have a n/a Subaru engine I thought of the bore fest that is a base Impreza, but it might just be ok.

280 Nm at 1700 - 5200 rpm for the GTi, rather than 205 nm at 6,600. A GTi will be significantly faster in a straight line- figures suggest mid 6s for the Golf. Plus a bucket load more power & torque is only a reflash away...
Renault Clio sport 200 has very similar power and a bit more torque to the 86 but it's all lower down, the Clio is slightly lighter, and can only just muster 6.9 sec to 100 km... I reckon you'll see 7.2 at best out of the 86...
