i would question how viable that is... in the US (which is the only market that you can compare), the RWD sport/muscle whatever cars start at around $22-$23k... the v6 mustangs, turbo 4 genesis etc.
Toyota would be brave hitting the same pricepoint with a 150kW four
they can of course, and i'm guessing they'll be reasonably successful given the pent up demand but somewhere down the track i would not surprise me if it hits $20k or less
this is a $26,990 Mustang GT... yeah...Originally posted by boxxx

The only real comparison is that they're going to be about the same money. But seriously, why would you buy a Golf over this unless you had a desperate need for four doors? They both have bugger all rear-seat room I suspect so I'd get this and let me kids climb into the back. They'd think it's fun anywayOriginally posted by Mr Ed View PostI do not understand the comparison between these and a Golf.

Except it won't be a Toyota in the USA. It will be marketed as a Scion. Not sure what that allows them to do (ask a higher price??)Originally posted by T0nyGTSt View Posti would question how viable that is... in the US (which is the only market that you can compare), the RWD sport/muscle whatever cars start at around $22-$23k... the v6 mustangs, turbo 4 genesis etc.

scion has aspirations of being able to ask higher prices like Lexus just like how they want to target hipsters and ended up transporting bluehairs
hasn't worked out how they wantedOriginally posted by boxxx

I think we've already worked out that any number of cars are going to be faster in a straight line, but thats not the point. This car will by all rights decimate a GTi anywhere that involves cornering and handling, and no doubt be a heap more fun in the process. Remember that several people here have said they dont like the GTi's numb lack of feel and FWD-ness, two flaws that are not going to be an issue for the ToybaruOriginally posted by rowdytoot View PostI think you fail to remember that torque turns tyres
280 Nm at 1700 - 5200 rpm for the GTi, rather than 205 nm at 6,600. A GTi will be significantly faster in a straight line-

Except the GTI is not the only car in the segment. You also have the Megane RS250, the Scirocco R, upcoming Focus ST, new Renault Clio RS (turbo this time).Originally posted by UZZ31 View PostI think we've already worked out that any number of cars are going to be faster in a straight line, but thats not the point. Do people want low powered rwd sports cars? The dwindling sales of the Mazda MX5 says maybe they don't.
