That isn't the point I was referring to. I was referring to your comment about nobody buying MGB's.

On your point, cheap couples maybe. Top end of town ie Mercs, BMW's and Audi coupes seem plenty popular.

I didn't put it well enough, fair call - what I should have said was "if you'd looked at convertible sales in the late 70s you would have said that..."

Maybe, doesnt need either to be fun though. Reckon maybe thats what they might have been trying to achieve with this particular project......

I reckon if you make it too big-revving, it becomes like an S2000 and that thing is almost impossible to drive sideways.

It should be interesting to see how this thing is received, to succeed it needs to convert a lot of non-sports car ppl, into sportscar ppl.

It's like most people who giggled then and giggle now that the NA6 MX5 had 85kw, have never driven one. I've raced a 650hp Viper and it certainly isn't more fun than an MX5. More awesome yes, but not more fun. Just more scary.

So who here would buy one of they were in the market for a sports coupe/new car?

I can't help comparing it (negatively) to the 370z, which is admittedly double in price.

I think the styling is hideous and wouldn't be seen dead in one. Had they made it look like say a Pug 406 Coupe, then yeah maybe.

Yeah I'd buy one. I like the MX5, and it seems to be the same sort of thing. I also had an AE86 too, and thought that was heaps of fun to drive.

Personally I think the NA and relatively gutless engine is a response to making it young driver insurance premium friendly.

I should clarify I meant the 1st generation, not the 2nd.

I'd buy. I'm not in a position to now but in a couple of years this is what I'd be looking to own.

I like the look of the Subaru version, and a compact rear driver with an emphasis on 'fun' sounds great. A revvy 2L making decent grunt that makes a good noise. Sounds a little like buying a brand new E30 coupe with factory warranty to me.

Not the best looking car ever but if it drives well, has a decent enough interior and makes a good noise I don't particulaly care how it looks from the outside. It certainly doesn't look horrible or unbareable.

it looks fucken ricetastic but at the same time, you can't expect the japs to go with a conservative style design either

At this end of the market who is going to commit without even knowing the price or spec?

All i will say is as someone who was looking at an MX-5 purely because its rwd, 2-door and reasonably economical (i dont care for convertibles but what else is there...) this ticks the right boxes for me. *But*, it depends on price.

Interior looks ok aside from some cheap-looking plastic, boot looks more useable than the Soarer
